Hi, guys, I need your advice, I have two questions. thank you beforehand.

On 08/ 29/2008, I sent application forms N-400 and $675 check to NSC. And on 09/07/2008 , the $675 was taken away by NSC.

QUESTION 1, Now I have some family issues that I need to keep my former citizenship for two years. Do you think if I call NSC, they will return $675 to me?

QUESTION 2, If NSC will not return the money to me, what way do you think I can postpone joining US citizenship while not to spend application fee again in two years? Some people tell me that if I fail in the future 100-question-examination, it is a way to postpone. Is it practable? What else ways?

I do love USA, just some special things are happening now so I need to postpone about 2 years to join the citizenship.

You are not going to get your money back - forget about that. Kiss that money goodbye.

You're also not going to be able to "postpone" for 2 years. If you are skillful, you can MAYBE drag it out. reschedule your biometrics a few times, until they tell you that you can't reschedule. Then when you get notified for an interview, reschedule that, until they tell you no more - and then the same for the oath. MAYBE you can drag it out - but I doubt it.

I dunno what you have going on over there, but I don't see how having U.S. citizenship is going to harm you in any way with respect to whatever it may be.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

I don't know the rules in Japan, but a lot of countries do allow dual citizenship so it would be like they would never really know and you could have both. I presume you checked into this and Japan does make you renounce your citizenship if you are naturalized somewhere else.

The only way you will get a cheque returned to you by USCIS is if your app is rejected the first time for corrections. After it's cashed, no way.

After you acquire US citizenship it appears you have two years to decide what to do with your Japanes nationality....

For Japanese citizens who became dual nationals on or after January 1, 1985 (i.e., after the change in Nationality Law was enacted):

If you became a dual national before age 20, choose by your 22nd birthday;

If you became a dual national at age 20 or later, choose within two years of acquiring your foreign nationality .

If you do not choose a nationality within the time period specified above, the Minister of Justice (Homudaijin) will request you to make a final decision. This process may result in the loss of Japanese nationality.

IRS works the same way, if you discovered you used a deduction that you shouldn't have, can contact them and they will remove it and gladly charge you more taxes. But if you discovered you had a very valid deduction, cannot add it, because that will lower your taxes. Can't use it the next year either, already expired.

Not entirely true. You can find an amended tax return within 3 years and get back any money that you have coming to you.
