I don't support stereotyping unless it's done in a joking manner, with people who understand you are joking around...so when the far right says something stereotyping the left, I roll my eyes. When the left stereotypes the right, I roll my eyes.

Yes there are others like me and are Republicans. If you are shocked, that's silly. :P

not me..above all, you are a lady of principle...

Thanks :)

On the contrary, my point is extremely relevant. As I said before, atheism isn't an ideology and claims no special set of morals. Religion in general, and Christianity in particular, makes great claims of moral codes and judgement before a supreme being. And yet, none of that stopped the slaughter of 6 million Jews. In fact, the stain of JC's execution at the hands of "Jews" may well have facilitated it.

No actually it is. Just because it is not an organized religion it is a belief. Hence, why when people from abroad see the douche bags of America pushing no religion ( aka atheism), they have to laugh.

May I suggest enrolling in Logic 101?

Gosh, we need a Venn diagram again.

Hitler did not suppress religion as part of his political/personal ideology. No churches were closed and in fact one of the many slogans that came out of the National Socialist propoganda machine was "Kinde, Kirche, Kuche" which highlighted the basic core philosophy that appealed to the German people. National socialism stressed the importance of children (Kinde), religion (kirche) and the home (kucke). All very nice family values.

The elimination of the jews wasn't strictly speaking a 'church based' ideology, but it is true that in Europe at the time he was growing up, and for generations prior, the jews were viewed with suspicion and envy and I suspect it was not a hard sell to persuade people that the 'jews' were the source of all their economic woes, or at least a significant contributor. The propoganda machine created a bogus scientific proof that jews (and gypsies and gays) were a class of subhuman or 'untermenschen' and then promoted the belief that German society needed to be cleansed of these people.

What it wasn't was a systematic attempt to promote 'atheism'.

Communism on the other hand was interested in supressing religion, the so called 'opium of the masses' and I can see why some people will try to claim this as a religious suppression in the name of atheism. However, again that is misleading. Communism is an ideology and the adeherents to that ideology are atheists but atheism is the absence of religious belief and not an ideology in itself (as has been pointed out) so, while communists are atheists, atheists are not communists.

What atheists? Are you talking about the minimal percentage that declined to answer the religion question in the latest consensus?

Why every time we have this discussion it breaks down into Christians v. the Heathens? Just because one doesn't identify himself or herself as a Christian does not make one an "Atheist". There are lots of other religions in this country, most of which are monotheistic, and most of which are founded upon the God of Abraham, though we might have different names for God.

i don't get this discussion... the Conservatives are Christians and everyone else is an atheist.

Likewise, might i remind, that just because one believes in the Separation of Church and State, does not make that person an atheist by any means...
