One of a small handful of movies that was not complete and utter trash and a waste of film.

But politicians should, ideally, be held to a high standard.
Why? By definition, isn't that saying that politicians are, or should be, better than everyone else? If so, then surely they are deserving of special rights that the rest of us are not worthy of. Edited by akdiver

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

The word "uppity" in itself has been applied to many people and frankly only has racial meaning when applied to blacks.

Having said that, I personally don't belive that this guy knew of the racial context as frankly, the term's not in popular use anymore and a couple of generations removed from him given his age.

1. uppity nijjer

An out of place black person who is out of line and thinks they are as good as or better than the white person they are standing next to.

Rosa Parks was an uppity *** ###### who thought that she didn't have to move for the white people on the bus.

I'm going to beat your ### you uppity ***, now get back in the field and pick my fuckin' cotton

Let me be more specific then; politicians should be held to high ethical standards, for obvious reasons.

Would the population be better served by a lottery to determine leadership?

I disagree. "Uppity" is still well in play as a racial slur and is one of the more commonly used terms to "code" racist messages. Plus, this guy is NOT young--he's in his mid-50s and grew up in the deep South. There is absolutely NO WAY he did not know what the connotation was or how his quote would be interpreted.

Asked to compare Michelle Obama to Sarah Palin, Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) stated:

“Just from what little I’ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they’re a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they’re uppity,” Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word “uppity,” Westmoreland said, “Uppity, yeah.”

And I always thought people who believed less than $5 million was middle class (you know, the ones with more houses than they can count) were part of the "elite class"

You know, I think it would. We essentially create juries that way. Why not run the government that way? Edited by akdiver

Are you honestly equating governmental leadership and policy making with serving on a jury, or are you just on a wind up?

That's not what I said. I was pointing out that if a random selection process is good enough for a jury, where a man's (or woman's) life hangs in the balance, it seems like it might not be a bad way to get some government leaders - you know, ones who keep it real, rather than ones who are off in some la la land. I certainly don't see how it could be any worse.

In this case, I'd make the "pool" for the selection process anyone over the age of 35 who has a university degree.

Right... So then you ARE equating governmental leadership and policy making with serving on a jury, and must be on a wind-up.

(this is interesting...considering Congressman Westmoreland's comment)

Georgia not so much on O's mind

So much for my hopes of getting in a fall trip to The Varsity or even 'Tween the Hedges: Obama is bailing on Georgia.

My colleague Lisa Lerer went to the Obama HQ for a briefing by manager David Plouffe and reports:

Obama recently stopped running ads in Georgia, a state the campaign originally identified as a potential battleground. Some Georgia field staff was moved into North Carolina, said Plouffe.

Why is it that in this country,an African-American cannot be educated without being called uppity or a sell-out ?

When they are the spouses of a politician running against your party, then yes. Totally uppity and elitist. If they are on your side then its all good, apparently.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
