Its easy to be dismissive when you're ignorant.

But sure, why not... Lets generalise across an entire population of people because clearly you lot have your finger on the pulse of what its like to walk in other people's shoes.

Quite the opposite actually.

The fact is Michelle may not even have been alive due to the constant tribal / African wars if her ancestors had not been brought here. That is reality and certainly not racism.

Maybe I should have my friends from South Africa, back in Australia, tell you how grand life is there with the constant violence and crime. And they were born and raised in SA, which is quite peaceful in comparison to other nations there.

I can already see the rebuttal coming. What would they know right #6. They only lived there, after all. Pfff insignificant, right # 6..

If my great grandfather hadn't come from the Czech Republic, and my other great great grandfather hadn't immigrated from England, and another one immigrate from Wales and another from Ireland so on and so forth I wouldn't be here. If your ancestors hadn't done X on X day of the month on X year you would have only existed in the alternate dimension of Xernon where you would have been prey for the giant green Xernonosaurus.

That's a mighty slippery slope you are skiing on....just a plainly ridiculous, illogical and racist argument.

You are missing the point. You cannot have your cake and eat it.

It is ridiculous for someone to sit here and say how much they hate the country, its people, its history etc yet on the other hand stay here and prosper from it. I am not surprised many with left wing views are endorsing this sort of attitude considering how many of their hollywood idols do this. That is, ####### on about the country and move overseas, yet conveniently come here to collect their pay checks. The founding fathers never setup a country where it is supposed to be convenient for one to prosper yet at the same time bite the hand that feeds them.

While that might be acceptable in some peoples books it is certainly not in mine. If I hated Australia, its history etc, I would wove. I would not sit there 24/7 hating on it for this an that while enjoying the fruits of that nation.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

If I had forgotten my keys yesterday I wouldn't have been able to get into my house.

If I hadn't have taken meat out of the freezer I wouldn't have had a very nice dinner.

etc etc etc. ;)

Would Michelle Obama have had the same opportunities if she had been born and raised in Africa? YES or NO

I'm not sure that's the point of the thesis - from what I read her argument had a lot to do with cultural alienation - and blacks finding it difficult to identify with their peers at Princeton and with their home communities.

I was speaking in general with that comment. Not her in particular. She obviously does not hate America. There are quite a few people in this country who fall into that description above.

If I went to England and crapped on about it, hated it that is, people would not be all open arms towards me and my views. They would tell me to #### off. With good reason.

The answer is the point.

Well sure. If that's all you did... Of course I don't know too many people at home who are particularly gung-ho for Britain and I'm not even sure where you'd find that outside of an England away game or something....

That said - plenty of my friends and relatives aren't exactly enthused by life in Britain... My dad for example - urged me to leave if or when I got the opportunity.

The answer is the point.

It is? But you just said above that you think she doesn't hate America? So I ask again - what's the point of this line of argument?

That in case she might have some doubts or reservations that she should count herself lucky that she's not in Darfur...?

If we had not baked carrot cake yesterday, I wouldn't have had carrot cake for my happy birthday.

Damn that is deep thought at its best!

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Dam straight.

PM me the next time an Oprah comes out of Africa. That is, having been born and raised in Africa.

Oprah herself has said on many occasion how grateful she is to be in America, to be American. That she would never have gotten to where she is elsewhere.

But again... what's the point?

I think you're missing the point. Your argument holds no water...it's based on pure speculation. If you want to prove your point you're going to have to do a lot better than an argument that uses the time/space continuum to support your thesis.

His point is that, in his infinite wisdom of temporal historical fluxes, Africa nowadays can't seem to produce ultra-rich individuals.

So lets just make him think he's right.
