Out of curiosity have you actually been down to Princeton? You don't tend to see a lot of minorities down there... Its not difficult to figure out why - but I can totally see how being exposed to an ivy league culture might cause minorities (who really are in the minority there) to feel alienated - not only within the institution but from their backgrounds as well.

You tell us why..

If someone else wrote something like that you would most definitely ask them to clarify it.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Because... Princeton is a traditionally white area (one of the oldest parts of the State) and there is a lot of wealth there.

You could have figured that out yourself - ya'know...

Four years of an Ivy League education and Michelle came out race obsessed. That's not unusual or shocking for a student to take the easy route and write about themselves and their experiences but she didn't get a wider vision of the world.

She complains about how rough it was for being black at Princeton but that's not a real ordeal but something to be proud of. There are plenty of kids who get their applications rejected and an Ivy League degree opens a lot of doors.

It was written by a college kid in 1985 but she still whines years later about America is a "downright mean place" so did she learn anything since 1985 even after all the good things that have happened to her and her family?

She and her husband had a chance to raise issues concerning blacks in America at the DNC but decided to go with the "Cosby" image to as to appeal to mainstream America so Michelle sold out and Obama disowned the black community (his words) to widen his appeal.

The one thing I learned over the years is that the more you give people, the more they ask for. As well as, the squeakiest wheel seems to get the most oil / attention; at the very least to shut it up. Certain groups of people in American realize that and use it as a means of getting their way.

A two step process which is now ingrained in quite a few sub-cultures in America.

Step 1: B----h B----h whine whine, until I get my way.

Step 2 (if Step 1 fails): start accusing people of stuff. Especial being racist, which has such a negative connotation in America due to slavery and segregation. Or you can do it subtly, being witty, with a "aware of blackness"

If anyone was ever in doubt you're a racist, I'm sure it can be removed in this post.

I wrote a report, 15 pages at that for my English final, on racism and the racial divide, like black voters getting scrubbed that decided an election, getting underfunded in primarily dense African American neighborhoods for voting machines which had a much higher ratio in denser white neighborhoods. Things objective and observed and backed with research.

You never even read her thesis, yet you're up her ### and now complaining about black people yet again. The "aware of blackness" thing is a ###### joke too. Then when someone criticizes white people you suddenly jump and call them a self-hater.

Yeah, hypocrisy 101. You're the ultimate one. Congrats!

"My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my 'blackness' than ever before," the future Mrs. Obama wrote in her thesis introduction. "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

What I don't understand is why some people DON'T believe it's possible for this to have happened? I don't see this snippet as whining, just stating what her experience was. And I think the key is that she was dealing with whites AT PRINCETON... for the most part probably wealthy and probably coming from backgrounds that didn't include many well-educated, upper-middle to upperclass blacks.

If you haven't read the thesis - I suggest you give it a look. Its quite interesting.

Nope never been to Princeton. You went to Princeton and didn't notice 27% of the students were minorities (back in 2000-2001)? Apparently, you see what you wish to see and ignore everything else.

I didn't read the entire thesis. The idea of racial groups hanging out with like members ain't original unless you've never been to an American school and noticed self segreation the cafeteria.

"At Princeton, blacks constituted more than 9.4% of first-year students, a more than 38% increase over the last year and the highest of any Ivy League university." 2006

Well I think you're going off on a tangent here - given that we are talking about someone who went to that university in the 1980's.

Besides my observation was a general one - having nothing to do with hard statistics of people who attend the university (i.e. we didn't go out there to look at education statistics). Just pointing out that that town is traditionally white, affluent and you don't tend to see very many minorities out there. Of course this is totally anecdotal - but is it within the realm of possibility perhaps that the university has altered its admission criteria in the years since Michelle Obama went there?

If you do want to look at statistics I'd suggest you look at the demographic breakdown of the people who live in Princeton Township. Feel free to take a wild guess as to what you'll find...

What no Civil Rights Act of 1964 in your part of Mississippi? Which stolen election was this? 2000? 2004? No Democrats at polling places?

There are stories of attempts to purge soldiers from the voting roles so the U.S. is anti-military as well?

Look up "gerrymandering" if want to see how it all really works. It goes back before blacks could vote so your racial goggles are out-of-focus as usual.

Nope, had nothing to do with gerrymandering and redistricting. However, your defensive attempts to negate what was done sure tells me you're defensive much like Aficionado about racially-based acts committed by Republicans fully knowing most blacks don't vote for them, and for a reason, of course.

2000 was where scrubbed black votes decided an election, 2004 it continued, but debatable as if it actually decided the contest. Nonetheless, the lack of black votes, and the lack of transparency and the lawsuits against Diebold and even Sequoia that followed showed how easily these machines could be tampered with, combined with no paper trail to add to it.

But hey, don't let the facts stop your rants. Blacks had it perfectly fine when slavery was ended right? Right. No wait, blacks had it perfectly fine when the Civil rights Act of 1964 was enacted right? Hah. Only idiots think racism is ended because of a ###### law or amendment passed.

Not really. Michelle thesis was about blacks on campus who were alumni I don't it had anything to do with townies

Makes me wonder if you ever saw the campus.

Makes me wonder if you were ever in New Jersey let alone Princeton. The number of whites is somewhat higher but there are a lot of Asians you didn't notice either.

Race in Princeton Township, NJ

77.45% of people are white, 4.75% are black, 12.74% are asian, 0.13% are native american, and 5.17% claim 'Other'.

5.81% of the people in Princeton Township, NJ, claim hispanic ethnicity (meaning 94.19% are non-hispanic).

I'm not sure why I'd lie about going there to be honest with you - not that I really have to prove it to you anyway. You can either take me at my word - or not. I don't really care.

Besides none of this disproves the very general statement I made at the outset - it is predominantly whites that live there.

Guess what my experiences on VJ make me feel like I am discriminated against also. Oh better yet I have been looked at for my skin color first and not my beautiful soul many a time by a black person, poor me, what am I to do. I have been a victim of reverse discrimination many times before in my life and many times discriminated against because of minority quota hiring practices. So you think anyone cares about Michelle Obama and her feel sorry for me attitude Princeton education! Righttttttttttttttttttttttt.

Poor poor Michelle with her Princeton education.

Once again, missing the point.

Missing the point. I don't think so.. Reality check 101 for many here.

Why doesn't Micheeeeelle go to this poor kid and tell her how much she disliked her time at Princeton.

This kid would give a freakin finger for 1/1,000,000th of the opportunities she has in America.

Right on!! It's the liberals that keep using race to their advantage.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Nearly 80% white is "somewhat" higher to you?

 just a bit...

If you're going fishing - I'd suggest some new bait. This particular batch you are using is rather stale.
