Michelle Obama's senior year thesis at Princeton University, obtained from the campaign by Politico, shows a document written by a young woman grappling with a society in which a black Princeton alumnus might only be allowed to remain "on the periphery." Read the full thesis here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.

"My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my 'blackness' than ever before," the future Mrs. Obama wrote in her thesis introduction. "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

Poor poor Michelle with her Princeton education.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I have a mexican american co-worker who graduated from Yale and says the same thing. She hated nearly all her stay in that university, they made her aware of her mexicaness in a great way and made her feel she wasn't good enough for Yale.

Missing the point. I don't think so.. Reality check 101 for many here.

Why doesn't Micheeeeelle go to this poor kid and tell her how much she disliked her time at Princeton.

This kid would give a freakin finger for 1/1,000,000th of the opportunities she has in America.

Its interesting - basically suggests that there's a process of cultural assimilation going on as a by-product of the education process - and that Princeton educated blacks were less likely to identify with other people from their community.

A friend of mine at home did a psychology dissertation along similar lines - basically to test for subconcious attitudes to racism. Her questionaire was very interesting.

Four years of an Ivy League education and Michelle came out race obsessed. That's not unusual or shocking for a student to take the easy route and write about themselves and their experiences but she didn't get a wider vision of the world.

She complains about how rough it was for being black at Princeton but that's not a real ordeal but something to be proud of. There are plenty of kids who get their applications rejected and an Ivy League degree opens a lot of doors.

It was written by a college kid in 1985 but she still whines years later about America is a "downright mean place" so did she learn anything since 1985 even after all the good things that have happened to her and her family?

She and her husband had a chance to raise issues concerning blacks in America at the DNC but decided to go with the "Cosby" image to as to appeal to mainstream America so Michelle sold out and Obama disowned the black community (his words) to widen his appeal.

Guess what my experiences on VJ make me feel like I am discriminated against also. Oh better yet I have been looked at for my skin color first and not my beautiful soul many a time by a black person, poor me, what am I to do. I have been a victim of reverse discrimination many times before in my life and many times discriminated against because of minority quota hiring practices. So you think anyone cares about Michelle Obama and her feel sorry for me attitude Princeton education! Righttttttttttttttttttttttt.

Out of curiosity have you actually been down to Princeton? You don't tend to see a lot of minorities down there... Its not difficult to figure out why - but I can totally see how being exposed to an ivy league culture might cause minorities (who really are in the minority there) to feel alienated - not only within the institution but from their backgrounds as well.

If you haven't read the thesis - I suggest you give it a look. Its quite interesting.

The one thing I learned over the years is that the more you give people, the more they ask for. As well as, the squeakiest wheel seems to get the most oil / attention; at the very least to shut it up. Certain groups of people in American realize that and use it as a means of getting their way.

A two step process which is now ingrained in quite a few sub-cultures in America.

Step 1: B----h B----h whine whine, until I get my way.

Step 2 (if Step 1 fails): start accusing people of stuff. Especial being racist, which has such a negative connotation in America due to slavery and segregation. Or you can do it subtly, being witty, with a "aware of blackness"
