Ok - I did some checking and found this on snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/palin/bannedbooks.asp

There is no list of books, however, Palin did on 3 separate occasions shortly after being elected Mayor indicated during discussions with the Chief Librarian that she wanted certain books banned and wanted to know how to go about it. She initiated her first conversations with the Librarian about the matter before being sworn in and the Librarian reported the conversation to the local Newspaper at the time (1996). Palin then raised the issue in a City Council meeting and drew a shocked response from those present. The Librarian responded that the books in the Library met National standards and she would vehemently resist any attempts at banning them. Four days after this exchange, the Librarian received a termination notice from Palin saying Palin didn't find the Librarian supportive. There was a public outcry and Palin 'withdrew' the termination letter from her (and a few others she had sent out at the same time to others who didn't 'support' her actions) saying she was just 'testing their loyalty'.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

hehehe, we are talking about a small town library! The desperation is getting comical. But please carry on. Petty trashing like this does nothing but harden the support for Palin.

Isn't that the same small town the GOP tells us is where Palin began to hone her experience?

lol.. kind looked fake.. a good book banner would have banned the harry emo books, of course, huxley, but they forgot animal farm, fahrenheit 540, thus spake zarathustra, das kapital, and of course a biographic work of el Che.. that's a must on a book banner dummy

#######? What #######?

You were talking about the size of town as if it is irrelevant because of the size.

I'm talking about the size of the town also but in the manner it is referenced by the GOP.

Where is the #######?

These are mere allegations coming from a former librarian. Hypothetically, if it were true, would you be agree that trying to ban or censor books is wrong, or would you say it's no big deal because it's a small town library?

Palin asked Wasilla librarian about censoring books

By Rindi White / Anchorage Daily News

WASILLA -- Back in 1996, when she first became mayor, Sarah Palin asked the city librarian if she would be all right with censoring library books should she be asked to do so.

According to news coverage at the time, the librarian said she would definitely not be all right with it. A few months later, the librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, got a letter from Palin telling her she was going to be fired. The censorship issue was not mentioned as a reason for the firing. The letter just said the new mayor felt Emmons didn’t fully support her and had to go.

Emmons had been city librarian for seven years and was well liked. After a wave of public support for her, Palin relented and let Emmons keep her job.

.....

If this is true, then Palin seems to have pattern of firing people that don't agree with her.

Here is the coverage from the local paper when it originally happened in 1996. I had been looking in Nexis trying to find out more about this event - I couldn't find it in the articles available to me there, but it appears the Frontiersman have re-typeset it from the archives and put it on their website:

Very interesting and I find that very disturbing. Palin did just bring up the issue once, she did so twice and the librarian had stressed to her that a clearly defined policy was already in place which seemed to have distressed Palin.

I think it's equally foolish to dismiss this issue as it would be to assume we have all the facts. I'm sure there'll be more information coming forward on this.

"Palin also said Monday censorship issues would not involve any departments other than the library."

Did I read that correctly?

BTW, rkl - good work.
