hello

well, i actually got two done;

The first one: for the province of Ontario, i called my regional police department and they told me the closest station to my house that does Criminal Records Searches. I went in and waited in line, it took about 30 minutes and it cost $45.

The second one: a National, i went to a place called International Fingerprinting Services in Mississauga (905)625 0467, that cost $45 and took only 10 minutes, then i sent the form they gave me to the RCMP along with a $25 money order. About 2-3 weeks later i received an official letter from the RCMP.

You can go to www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca for more details (to be honest some of the information wasn't so clear)

The reason i have two is because i thought my regional police department would be able to do a National fingerprint check, it wasn't until later while i was waiting i asked them if they'd need my fingerprints and they said No, and they gave me the address of the International Fingerprinting Service in Mississauga, so i let them finish it anyway thinking i may need it some day.

You need a Canada wide police name check. You only need a fingerprint check done if you have a criminal record. In Ontario I believe you get yours at the Commissionaire's office. Make sure you request a CPIC Canada Wide Name Check. You should get it either that day or within a week. Don't forget to check out the Canada Forum here on VJ for these kind of specific Canada questions you might have.

Best of luck!

check out this website:www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca ~ Division Locations

All you need is a drive licenses or a passport, i carry two pieces if ID with me for everything I do.

This is the first time im hearing about the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada ~http://www.infocom.gc.ca

I just had a look at their site and im a bit confused as well but you may want to look into them further cause if you only need a Name Check from them that's great! then you won't have to jump through all the hoops and spend all the money like me with the fingerprinting and such...

Tell them you are a K Visa Applicant and need a police certificate/clearance. They'll understand.

Please check this website out http://www.commissionaires.ca/ and go to Regional Offices. There's one at 15 Toronto Street Suite 302. If you want you can also go to the Mississauga branch of fingerprinting and Identification Services offering police clearances located at 6200 Dixie Rd Unit 109. You call 905.564.7210. They are open Mon-Fri 8-4pm and Sat 9-12:30pm. You need two pieces of ID and it's good to bring your letter from Packet 3. Like others have mentioned you don't need a fingerprint check unless you have a criminal record. I even asked the Commissionaire himself. :star:

They offer police clearances through CPIC or the national criminal records repository using your name and date of birth. It does not take long at all.

All the best :star:

I went to Toronto Police Services (TPS) (aka the police station) at College and Yonge (very short walk from the subway). I brought a form which I downloaded from their web site (or they have them there). They're set up to do this so it's really easy. In fact, there's a line with a velvet rope like in a bank and you get in line with everyone else who is requesting things like this.

http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/recordsmana...t/clearance.php

You have to go in person as it outlines on the site and bring the fee and the ID they need. I received mine in the mail in about a week.

I didn't need fingerprints. I think it's more complicated if you need fingerprints.

I also went to police headquarters in Toronto. Very quick and easy. They'll also have the form at the office or you can pick it up at your local division. I'm not sure but I think it was $25 or so and I paid a bit extra to get a second copy just in case. Mine came in the mail about a week or so later as well.
