Hi everyone!

We're gathering our paperwork to lift the condition off my greencard and i have a question about the gap we have in our bank statements and health insurance. My husband lost his job at the beginin of 2007 and didn't start working again till October 2007. Because of that we lost health insurance for over a year and our checking and savings accounts activity is visibly smaller on the statements from 2007.

Should i explain that in the cover letter? I don't want it to look suspcious for them but on the other hand i don't know if explaining it isn't to much....?

besides that we have taxes, lease agreement, some bills, private corespondence, affidavits from friends, new health insurance and our bank accounts show more activity now

Is it a requirement to submit every bank statement from beginning to end?

Health insurance is not a factor except as one form of evidence that you are in a bona fide marriage. One recent bank statement in both names should be more than enough to provide further evidence.

No, it's not a requierment to provide every single bank statements. In my undrestanding, it is important to make sure, that the evidence covers whole two years though. Our 2007 evidence just looks worse. Thats why i'm concerned and i think that maybe i should let them know why.

Thanks for responding guys!

I say that if their exclusion would show a large gap in the period since you've been married, include them with a note attached that states that while there shows less activity during your husband's period of unemployment, you maintained a joint account.

that's more like an answer i've been looking for. I was thinking that explanaition should be in the cover letter but note attached to our "bank part" of evidence is probably a better idea.

Hi Tobetogether,

"If you believe your situation to be unique, explain it fully in an attachment to the packet, not as a cover letter."

(As quoted from the following USCIS Website: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD)

Likewise, I had to write an separate attachment too (in addition to the cover letter I already wrote) about my tax situation.

And no, you don't need every bank and health insurance statements from the beginning. Just as long as you cover the entire period of from your marriage and conditional residency, without too many huge gaps it should be ok. For example, I submitted bank statements for every 3-4 few months, which covered those two years.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your immigration journey.

Ant

Hi,

Yes, they just want to see if you have a joint bank account or not. After all, the I-751 is about the validity of a marriage, and not of one's finances. So you can have any amount in it, as long as it's shown as a joint account, that's all.

If it makes you feel any better, after I had sent in my I-751, and they had cashed the cheque/check in, I only had $0.20 left in the account....

Ant (Broke, in debt, and still waiting...)

I don't think they care about how much money you have or don't have in your account.. they just want to see if you have a joint account...

Thank you so much Ant!

i checked USCIS web site sooo many times, i can never really find what i need! looks like i should relax more but when i read how many pages, inches(!) and pounds of documents people send it seems like there is something wrong with ours....

I felt the same way, but every couple will be different. We are sending (By the end of the week) plenty of info and I think we only have about 30 pages of stuff. I personally think 100 pages of evidence is a lot! Just make sure your evidence covers the 2 years, if they want more they will ask.

good luck!

Hi Tobetogether and Everyone,

No problem about the info. Actually, I found the link for that from another VJ post somewhere on this website. So the thanks really goes to that person, whoever they may be (I forgot who they were or what post it was on). Yes, I know what you mean about the USCIS website and not finding the information that you need there. I guess all it takes is just a bit of exploring and a bit of work there on the USCIS site and here on VJ site to find the information that one really needs. After all, who ever said that the immigration process was easy at all?

Don't worry about having not enough information, as every case and/or situation is different and there is no pre-determined number of pages of information to send in (though I believe in the concept of "there is no such thing as too much paperwork"). No, there is nothing wrong with your case or anyone else's case at all. As long as you have the relevant information in the span of time that they require, then it should be ok. Don't get too overwhelmed with this either. Just take each piece of evidence and organize it one at a time, and before you know it, you'll have all your information ready to send in...

Good luck with your immigration journey.

Ant (Waiting and searching for info...)
