Health insurance

Hi there,

I need your support guys. I moved to the US back in June and recently got married. I'm still working for my German employer as a self-employed consultant, which means that I'm not employed, but I bill them my monthly fee. Since the company is saving the German social security contributions this way, they increased my fee and said that this should pay for my wife's and my health insurance (this is mandatory in Germany).

So far so good. My problem is: which health insurance provider should we choose ? We have a budget of approx. $1,000 per month, and we're interested in a plan that provides the following:

- free choice of physician

- lowest deductible possible

- low out-of-pocket

- low or no copay

- if possible, coverage of my pre-existing condition (asthma, but I only need to see a doctor once per quarter to get the prescription for my medication)

I simply don't know where to start, or what providers offer coverage in my area (Houston, TX). Can anyone help that has an individual health care plan and good experience with their provider ?

Thanks,

Daniel

Providers vary by state. Look at a site like ehealthinsurance.com to find a provider. You will definitely be paying a lot per month for a plan that meets your requirements depending on the size of your family.

Coverage for a pre-existing condition is unlikely with individual plans, unless the state law requires that it be covered.
