Kind of hard to argue that when ALL of the polls show him tied or ahead. But I realize that this is the convention bounce and we still have 8 weeks to go. I just find it interesting that Obama got a 4 or 5 point bounce while McCain got a max bounce of 19 points. Remember that they started tied before the conventions. Not looking good for the messiah.

 You can count on that!!!

...and here I am.

Bush's approval rating is at 30 percent....McCain's campaign promises line up with Bush 90 percent of the time. Over 70 percent of Americans believe we're going in the wrong direction with this country. Although I've got to hand to McCain for trying to distance himself from Bush and his failed policies, it's only a matter of time...most likely during the debates, when most Americans will come to terms with the choice they have to make at the voting booth.

i never pay attention to polls until about 2 weeks prior to the election...

but, mccain did have an excellent bounce...and choosing palin was a more wise choice than obama choosing biden...at least at this point///

The "Bush-McCain, 90%" claim doesn't hold much water for me. In 2007, Obama voted in line with Bush 40% of the time, which suggest that he agrees with McCain's vote maybe half the time. That's good for bipartianship, but it's not really the point the claim is trying to make.

It's a very good boost for McCain no doubt about it. I am not sure what this tells us except perhaps that people don't really make choices based on what a candidate says he/she will actually try to achieve once in office as neither side seem keen to tell us.

True...the numbers alone don't really tell much. That's why I think it will be much clearer for voters as to which candidate they believe best represents the ideas and policies they want to see for this country when the debates take place.

I agree - to an extent. I wonder how much is it about what the candidates say and how much is how they say it, tho. Obama's first speeches were seen as electrifying, but were also criticized for being short on substance. The same argument can now be made against Palin. Personality and 'looking Presidential' are as important to voters as 's/he thinks like me'.

For some voters, they'll be swayed by such things, while others may get turned off by it. The American people are fickle that way, but when it comes down to actually voting, I believe that most voters really soak it all in, and vote for which candidate or party they believe can turn this country around. McCain's got an enormous task and that is to convince voters that not only is he not anything like Bush in terms of policy, he has solid ideas on how to get our economy back on track - which he has done neither. As much as he wants to divorce himself from Bush and Cheney, he cannot divorce himself from standing by the very failed policies that have brought this country where it is today. My hunch is that voters will be voting on issues like the economy and war in Iraq and not simply on which candidate they are most fond of.

I think that is true, well in so far as they will vote for the candidate who promises the best gas and energy prices for tomorrow. Most people are not really going to care where the gas/electrice comes from, or if the gas prices will last more than 6 months.

Barack Obama can tell everyone that his party has a long term plan until they are blue in the face, only people who can afford to worry about it will vote for him - those and the people who are dedicated to long term energy solutions. The rest are worried about themselves, and rightly so of course, and will not vote for measures that will lead them into poverty.

It's a hard sell to tell people that there are currently no answers to the energy crisis that encompass everyone's needs and it's hard to vote for something that will have hopefully a long term benefit but might immediately lead to own's own family undergoing hardship.

Approximately 73% of all statistics and poll results are made up.

Of the remaining 27%, 15% are suspect.

Of the remaining 85% of that, 34% are misleading.

Of the final 21%, no one can really understand what they mean.

So I wouldn't really put much faith in these polls.
