Actually it was a hassel to get married in the church because I am Christian and he is Catholic. Mexico is extremely Catholic and the marjority of people are only married in the church and not civil because it is more important.

Actually, that is not true. To marry in Mexico, and almost any Latin American country, to have a valid, legal marriage, you will need to get married civilly - then you will marry in the Church. A marriage in Mexico is legal only if it is a civil ceremony performed at a local Civil Register Office (Oficina del Registro Civil). The civil marriage is actually seen just as important as the Church ceremony. Most people can still tell you their civil/church anniversaries. Oddly enough, the church ceremony is actually seen to many as just the formality, because it is the civil marriage that actually legally marries the couple.

Good luck!
