Video on the web

So - I've noticed that there seems to be more and more video clips on news sites, rather than actual articles for me to read. Now, video is fine, if you're looking for porn, or sports (I guess) or other entertainment - but when it comes to news, I want to READ the news. If I wanted to WATCH the news, I would turn on the TV. There seem to be a lot interesting news items, judging from the headlines (or links), but as soon as I see that it is a WATCH: or VIDEO: or some other non-text-based mechanism for transmitting the news (assuming that it really is news, and not just some ####### someone is trying to pass off as news), I lose all interest. Well, I'm still interested - but I'm not going to bother to click on the link because I don't want to be inundated with some video ####### when all I want is something to read.

Do you think that most people who are looking for NEWS and not some other thing really want to watch video news on the web, rather than something to read? If so, why not just turn on the TV for news to watch rather than read? Am I just too behind the times? Should I write my congressmen? Bottom line: video news on the web - bullshit or not?

Cheers!

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Not bullshit, just different. Like watching Hardball is different from actually reading a paper. They both serve a purpose, IMO. Just don't think they're interchangeable - they're not.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I'm with you on this one. I like to scan the headlines on breaks at work, and it seems like so many of them have that camera icon without a text alternative. Not only can my work connection not support the video, but even at home, most of the time I prefer to scan through a written piece and go back for a more thorough read if I have time, rather than sitting through a commercial and then an infotainment-style video. Most of the time, I end up Googling the headline and looking for a text version of the story. The videos have their place, and I'll let them run sometimes when I'm relaxing at home, but I just wish they'd throw up a link to the text as well instead of, say, a T-shirt icon.
