There is a solution to this. You can buy milk and freeze it. It does require you to open it and take a small bit out beforehand since liquids expand when frozen. When you do use it, it's not like buying it right off the shelf at the moment, but it's still good. Of course, this is assuming you have freezer space to do this. I can store at least two gallons in my side by side freezer side.

or buy powdered and make your own.

I'm guessing that the price of tomatoes in Alaska are going to be grossly different than the price of tomatoes in say Alablama, where the growing season is about 10 months longer, and they don't have to ship them across an entire continent!

Be thankful you're not in Nunavut, there a box of breakfast cereal would cost you about $12 or so, and a single can of Pepsi is like $4.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I have a feeling that akdiver may have picked up a "hothouse" tomato (more expensive) and then freaked out, without checking against the "regular" ones.
I dunno man. There didn't seem to be anything special about this particular tomato. However, I will say that I didn't look around - I saw a tomato display and I grabbed a tomato and went on my merry way. Even still, over $3 for a tomato is a lot, no matter how special the tomato may be.

By the way, I made that tomato last 3 days. It is gone now.

it was probably a hothouse tomato.. those are usually really expensive..

Oh, I wouldn't care I don't eat cereal (:

I am however, still thankful that I am not in Nunavut (:

Well, I was at the store again today. I specifically went out of my way to do some tomato price research. The cheapest tomatoes were $3/pound. The "hot house" kind were $3.50/pound. The most expensive were $5/pound.

Where are you in Alaska, akdiver? I was in Juneau for 10 years and grew all kinds of veggies.
Yeah, a lot of people up here grow that wacky weed. I try to play it straight though. Edited by akdiver
