after finding this website, i know now that we have applied for the wrong visa. I decided aganist the fiance visa b/c the process appear longer. I feel as if i have directed my fiance into a losing battle. His interview is next week in Kingston and the odds are aganist him. I do not know what to say to him, do i tell him my fears and what i have recently learned? He thinks that i am so smart but i feel so stupid. His entire family is joining him on the trip to the embassy. My mind is racing - i need to do something to help the situation. I can't even answer his phone calls b/c he thinks that something is wrong with my tone of voice. i keep texting his phone "i love you, I miss you and I will c u soon! ". If i talk to him now, i will only kill his confidence. WWJD?

Sounds like she had her fiance apply for a tourist visa instead of the K-1 visa and now his interview is next week for the tourist visa.

The best thing might be to cancel the interview and apply for the K-1. Anyone else with better advice?

The tourist visa you have applied for will only allow your fiance to come to the U.S. for a "visit". He will have to return to his home country when the visitor visa expires.

You will then need to apply for the K-1 (Fiance visa) so that he can return to the U.S. to get married and live and work.

If he mentions at his tourist visa interview that he is intending to get married and stay in the U.S. after his arrival, his visitor visa will most likely be denied.

Ryon, if you applied for the tourist visa so that he could come here and you can get married - Yes, you applied for the wrong one - Because marrying on that, knowing that was the plan, is fraud, which could be an issue when you try to adjust status. JA is notorious for being hard on tourist visas - but at this point, I would say let him go for the interview and try to get it - At least he will be able to come and visit you while you apply for a marriage visa or fiance visa - It's not going to hurt to try it - being denied isn't going to prevent him from getting a different visa.

As Honey said - come down to the Yardie thread - there is a whole crew of us that will help you through in whatever way we can!

My girl,

Don't be so hard on yourself. You did what you thought was the best with what you knew. Wait and see what happends. If it does not work out, try the K1 route. Just wait and see what happens. It took my hubby and I a little under 6 months to get him here on the fiance visa.

What visa were you suppose to apply for? What is your question?

I take it the OP is asking for opinions about whether she should fess up to her fiance and his family before they all travel to Kingston with the expectation of success obtaining a visa followed by a prompt wedding and life together, that she made a mistake, that the chances of obtaining the visa at all are slim and that while there could be a wedding the couple will have to wait several months to start their life together. Her other option is to act surprised when she gets the call from the disappointed family. She asks, "WWJD?" (What would Jesus do?) but she already knows the answer.

Pushbrk - I can almost guarantee that the fiance and his family know the chances of obtaining a visa - It's common in JA, and well known that a tourist visa to the US can be hard to come by.

While this may be true, the OP definitely indicates they don't understand this and she's worried about telling him because it will "ruin his confidence". There's a huge number, maybe even a majority of US Citizens who have no interest in or knowledge of international travel. We even had one post here last week who had a passport, obtained a visa, traveled abroad to meet his fiance, filed a petition, and still had no idea shortly before the K1 interview date that his fiance would need a passport. I'm taking the OP's words at face value.
