Checking in on I-751 docs, OB records?

Wow, everyone sends so many documents! Is it really necessary to send many copies of taxes etc? Our taxes are like 15 pages or something since I have some freelance income.

I was originally thinking of sending copies of car insurance, joint credit cards, joint bank account statements, joint cel phone statements. All of our utilities and the house is in my name since I lived here before he came. I was also thinking of sending a copy of my OB's medical records since I am pregnant and I figured that was a pretty good documentation of a relationship. Do you think sending medical records is weird or will it be helpful? Will we have enough evidence or are photos etc really helpful? I would think the USCIS would recommend them if they were looking for them, they did for the AOS.

Thanks!

Hi Beccaogingi,

Yes, there are a lot of documents to send for the I-751. But don't be overwhealmed too much by it. Personally, I'm a believer in the concept of "there is no such thing as too much paperwork", so I would send in as much information as I can. However, as long as you have covered enough of the required evidence (as stated on the I-751 instructions as what they needed), you should be ok. And in the end, it is up to you and/or anyone else to decide how much information they want to send in.

In my situation, I recently sent in about 100+ pages of evidence, as mentioned previously in this message thread here: http

In answer to your questions/comments in your post:

-I don't exactly know about the tax returns, as I didn't send any because of my situation (I provided an explaination for that instead). Though I would think that the pages showing the joint names should be sufficient enough, as this I-751 based on validity of the marriage, not of one's income or finances

-Financially, you have great evidence by sending in copies of the car insurance, joint credit cards, joint bank account statements, cell phone statements. Just make sure that these cover the entire period of your marriage and of the time since you gained conditional residency. And if you have any more financial information, yes, do send those in too.

-For the lack of joint utilities and the house name, is there a way you can add your husband's name to these bills and documents now or as soon as possible? If not, I would provide an explaination as to why this is not in both names, as they look at the lack of this evidence too. Also, you can provide letters/mail/junk mail/cards/club memberships, etc. addressed to both of you, to show a joint residence. They do look at joint residency, so try to get some paperwork to cover that.

-Photos are definitely helpful, as they put a "human" element to your case (though they are optional). After all "pictures are worth a thousand words". So if you can, send those in.

-Trip/event tickets in both names help (though they are optional), showing that both travel together

-Affidavits from people you both know can help too as it shows others know you as a couple

-As for medical records: First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. Frankly, it's none of the government's (or anyone else's) business about your personal medical records. To cover the issue of your pregnancy, I would just get a medical note/letter from your OB saying that you are pregnant. Also, if you are far enough along (I don't know how far along you are), you can submit ultrasound photos too. If you know your OB well enough you can also get them to sign an affidavit in regards to your marriage and your baby. If your baby is born by the time you submit the application, then yes, submit the birth certificate, as mentioned in the list of required evidence. In my situation, I only submitted pregnancy and miscarriage medical notes, as the pregnancy ended early without a birth, and I felt that the early ultrasound photos were too private and personal to submit.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your immigration situation and pregnancy.

So many documents are necessary, because I have seen time and time again people getting RFE's for not including enough! We as petitioners have the burden of proof, and yeah, it's gonna take the sacrifice of a small tree or two.

The key to the ROC process boils down to showing evidence that 1) your marriage is ongoing, legitimate and sharing the same domicile; 2) that you have merged your finances and can show evidence of shared assets / liabilities; and 3) that the evidence you provide spans the length of your marriage.

Don't send in all your tax paperwork, get copies of your tax return transcripts (which you can order free of charge from the IRS) from all the years.

Ant gave you some good ideas and advice, which I agree with. I'd also humbly suggest drawing up wills listing each other as beneficiaries, or include anything else that lists beneficiary status (life insurance, investments, etc).

I'm not listed on our house deed, but we included a copy of it anyways to establish/confirm where we reside.
