I dont know about you but as an o neg blood person, i am a big blood donor. I also will give all my organs if I die and would give my kids organs if something happened to them. I got my husband to sign an organ donation form although I dont think he gets it completely

How do you feel about donating your organs and blood plasma and how does your spouse feel?

Were you raised watching people give blood? This maybe much more of an american thing

I got a blood transfusion in 1986 and I am sure glad the blood was available. Since I am going in the hospital any day now,, I am so glad people donate because I have a less common blood type and I have needed blood before

ONEGS like me can give to everyone but only receive from o negs.. thats where it gets dicey. I dont know how many weeks after I give birth that I can start donating again

I donate blood locally every chance i get...i am an organ donor, hey, after im dead i wont need em anymore, and hubby is not..

I think its hard to get on a blood donation schedule. With all the disasters, its needed more than ever. I am going to try to convince my husband to go with me and do it after the baby is born. I started talking about it with my son. The minimum age here is like 16 or 17. Ive done plasma too. My mother would never do it. I think father does alot. I often wonder if other people are commited to giving blood. I remember after 9 11 we saw so many people donating.

years ago I remember the blood mobile going to the masjid so I wondered how they do this in MENA..as far as getting blood etc. I think they MAKE army people give blood for sure..( not a choice) lol

I used to donate whole blood and platelets regularly, can't anymore. I've never done plasma, but it might be okay since it's basically my platelets that are big and funky-shaped, so I can't share those. I've heard some organ donation is out also, but it's something to find out. In addition to donating whole blood, you can take a couple of hours and donate just platelets or just red cells -- they filter out what they need and put the other components back into your body, and it's very easy. The place I used to go for the platelet donation would let you pick out a movie to watch on a screen attached to your chair. The folks working there were so nice, and the chairs were comfortable; lots of people napped right through it under a blanket. I also know some folks who had their bone marrow typed and are on a donor list for that. These days, they can get a bone marrow donation by removing stem cells from your blood, so it's less complicated and painful than it used to be, although it can make your bones ache for a while, like you have the flu. But if you turn out to be a match and can help save the life of someone with leukemia, what a gift!

I know a woman who found she was no longer allowed to donate blood after returning from Mexico because they found antibodies for hepatitis in her blood. She'd thought she'd had a stomach bug, and I don't remember which strain of hep they decided she'd had, but it's one that's not chronic and not generally problematic in the long term. I have heard from someone at DHEC that because hep is common in so much of the world, chances are good that many of our spouses have already been infected with a mild strain of it at some point in their life, and that might make them ineligible to donate blood. I remember that they ask where you have traveled recently, but I don't remember all of the questions since at the time I donated, I wasn't traveling overseas.

Proud Red Cross Donor Card carrying member. I couldn't donate for a a while after I returned from India for work three years ago, but I've been back on track. I am lucky that they visit my workplace just about every two months and I just go during my lunch break. Luckily I can donate after visiting Jordan as I go every year.

In Jordan they have blood banks and the King and Queen in their efforts to promote it (as a necessity as well as it being safe) regularly have the media accompany them when they donate. It was a big thing after the Amman hotel bombings few years back.

The organ donor information is filled out on the back of my drivers license.

I used to donate blood before coming to DZ ... but with all the poor medical training and procedures ... and not to mention the high AIDS rate .... I am really afraid to! I have been to the lab for blood tests several times, first time was a shocker! Now I bring my own "supplies" ... no dirty re-used sringes for me thanks!

BTW some MENA countries "say" it's haraam to donate blood or organs. Here in Algeria, they don't say that buuuut few ppl bother to donate!

Yes i donate blood but not regularly. There is a blood bank who sends buses down to universities and ask if anyone wants to donate and thats how i did both times.

I know its not haram to donate becoz it saves lives.

I am waiting for a cervix softener agent. I think mistopropal is the correct pronunciation but they just called it cervilex or some other weird stuff. There are not too many people on the floor ( I am in ante partum ) which is the place they put you when they give you something but they arent quite inducing yet. If they can get me to 2 to 3 centimeters dilated they will move me to l and d and put me on pit but my cervix is really thick right now. I am only one centimeter dilated and until they administer this stuff it aint thinning out any time soon

I don't donate blood. Several times I could not because of some exceptions. Mostly I do not because I pass out at the site of my blood or any blood going through tubes. Needles and medical stuff just bothers me really bad (ironic I married a doctor, lol). If there was ever an emergency near me, I guess I could hide under a blanket and stick my arm out. Its not that I'm being selfish. I just don't handle it well mentally. At this time I've never dontated, but all my blood tests say I am perfectly healthy and have no weird things so I guess I could. I thank God for those of you who do donate. Don't judge me, we each have our phobias, this is mine.

As for organs, I have no problem donating mine, at least the major ones. I want my eyes left alone. It sounds silly, but I don't want my eyes removed or in someone else's head. Maybe I should stop watching strange movies though, lol.

My husband got upset when he found out my driver's license says I am an organ donar. He told me to take it off. It is not that he has a problem with organ donating. He just gets protective of me. There have been cases where someone could have been saved and the hospital let them go so they could get the organs. It is rare, but I know it worries some people.

I was a blood transfusion recipient so I cant in good conscience NOT donate.I have donated so much over the last 20 years its hard to find a vein LOL

As far as organ donation. I would donate my childrens organs as well as my own and that includes anything that was needed. I feel that our body is just a shell and they stuff it full of cotton anyway when they embalm and it seems selfish not to fight to save the lives of others when you arent in the body anyway.

I would gladly donate marrow, blood , plasma if it mean saving a life. The whole living kidney thing scares me a bit because I would be afraid that my one kidney could not handle my body alone although I think that if a family member needed one , I would strongly consider it.

This is NOT a family thing. My mom wouldnt dream of donating nor would anyone else in my family and none of them regularly give blood
