@ fwaguy

You are right. But I still didn't feel comfortable to lie when the clerk asked if I was married.

@ I Quit

Social Security Card Center in Brooklyn. I printed out the OIG and the POMS and showed it to them. But since it doesn't say explicitely that a K-1 person is eligible for a ssn after marriage as long as I-94 is still valid they didn't believe me.

As far as I know this office serves whole Brooklyn.

This is what the website says:

"If you live or receive mail in Brooklyn, N.Y.; Queens, N.Y.; Orlando, Fla.; downtown Phoenix, Ariz.; north Phoenix, Ariz.; or Las Vegas, Nev., you must visit a Social Security Card Center to apply for an original or replacement Social Security card."

I don't know if I could also go to the Queens, NY office...

it is a federal benefit... you can go to any SSA office that you want....

No she can't. If she lives in an area served by a Card Center, she must apply at a Card Center. The only way around it is to use a mailing address on the application that isn't served by a Card Center, but if you use a document with an address, e.g. driver's license, they will probably question the address on the document not matching the address on the application.

The Queens Card Center is an option.

I want to share my final triumph with you!

I had sent an email through the SSA website asking for information about my situation (after marriage before EAD).

First I received an standarized email. Nothing new.

Then I got an email today from the operations supervisor of the Brooklyn Security Card Center and she told me to call her. She then explained to me that I was right and that I could come back in on Monday to apply for my SSC and told me to aks for her if there are any problems!

:)
