okay guys Im asking for some help

I know a girl who got married to a usa citizen. She is from the philippines. I know her through my ex fiance. I had a bad experience, and bought a ticket for my ex fiance back to Manila. We did not get married. She wanted to go back, and given the situation, I wanted her to go back as well. So much for that part. But I had some correspondence with some of her friends because I was upset at the time and chatting with them etc. One of those friends has contacted me

in email.

I dont know the whole story, but she and her fiance got married. For whatever reason, he wants a divorce and

will not file adjustment of status. She could be out of status now, I dont know. I can find out. Apparently she

is telling me of abusive behaviour on his part. I dont know if its true, Im just relaying what she said. From some

of what she told me, I do believe he is pretty much an #######. I dont know about abusive, but he told her

some pretty messed up things that lead me to the idea he is a jerk. I get the impression he is one of these guys

who doesnt respect the girls who come here and think he is "saving" them and she is here to serve him and

all that happy horseshit.

So.. does she have any options to stay here? I think I could come up with someone she could stay with, and she

mentioned someone in texas that could keep her for awhile. He has bought her a plane ticket back to manila for the 23rd of september. She is in Pennsylvania, Im in seattle... I guess he has her isolated in the country in hickville somewhere. Thats the info I get.. she has no access to a cellphone and no money.

This is very unfortunate for a filipina who left her family and who is willing to start a new life with a US Citizen partner.

Reading this story, I think the best thing she could do is too see a lawyer.Or at least go to the nearest Philippine embassy. Phil embassy can help her. In some cases, if she is really being abused by her husband, if she could prove that is does happen, she can probably file a self petition so that she could still stay in the United states. I can't really say much about this self petition as to I dont have enough knowledge about this. But the best thing to do is she really needs to see an authority so that somebody can save her from her abusive husband.

Best for her to have hubby start the divorce proceedings and grab the ticket and go home and start over.

Some a holes won't even pay for the ticket.

I have been reading this forum for awhile now.

I read somewhere that if the guy is abusive, the woman can file for a divorce. But the woman needs proof for that, medical record or something.

Even though they are divorced, the woman could still change her status.

In the first place, she married the guy with pure intention... who would want an abusive husband.

She could divorce the guy, yet could still capply for adjustment of status.

she emailed me and she did get out of the house and is staying with a friend. I guess my next step is to try

to find some legal aid in her area.

Some things I found odd about it is that she had breast implant surgery in the Philippines before coming here,

he paid for that, and I assume he wanted that done, and he also paid for ### implants if you can believe that one.

I didnt even know they had that.

So I asked her for more info on whats going on, and she said he didnt want to pay to get her teeth fixed for 5,000

and also she needed a chin implant.. It all sounds kinda wierd to me. If this is all true, and I do believe the first

surgeries are, because my ex fiance told me about that when she was still over there waiting to come here.

It sounds like the guy wanted to make some kind of woman out of her instead of accepting her as she is.. Im just

thinking that is in her favour. She told me he was abusive verbally, and I believe that, but there is no proven

physical abuse.

Regretfully i had a very bad year and Im too broke to help her get a lawyer. Here in Seattle they have legal aid

for immigrants, but I dont know about where she is. I will find out just where it is she is exactly and see

what is available there.

Yeah, when you find contradictions like that, you know, or should know that something isn't right. Can just as easily sign up for one of the many free e-mail sites, put in some kind of fake user ID, and really post some sad stories here to get a 50 some odd response, so guess who else is being suckered. Always one side of the story, but guess it's a good place to vent, even for your own personal problems.

She needs to find resources and get it in her head not get scared. If she thinks she has a valid reason to get on with her life on her own then she must go ahead and do something herself. I understand your being helpful but I also think it's a bit iffy that she just go ahead and be telling people (like you, not the authorities) first about her situation. Please go ahead and advise her of the needed action. She has to learn to stand up for herself and get things going as soon as possible.
