Hi all , we are so Happy! He is waiting for the Carta Blanca, (applied Aug. 27th in Trinidad, Cuba), no damage during Hurrican Gustav, and they did the Vivienda! Hopefully there will be no problems with that! I hope he is here soon so we can have out civil ceremony immediately and start planning for the family reception! I do not know the next steps after he gets here. Hopefully he will get the EAD at JFK. I do not know what Biometrics is ,or if we should gwet a lawyer for the Green Card process. We will get married right away, and I had a horrible experience with my K-1 attorney. Please advise!!!! This site was way more helpful than the lawyer!----Karena y Omar

let's review where you are right now:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow

you are now at step 14. at the poe he will turn in the unopened package given to him at the embassy/consulate to the poe official. he will also receive the i94, which is placed in his passport. do not lose the i-94, to replace it costs $320!!! (i-102)

here are most of the guides for doing aos:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3aos

i do hope he also received a copy of the ds-3025 to assist in the aos - see step 11 of Assembling the I-485 Package: Checklist

additional aos notes:

all of the above links are from

best wishes

(moved to aos forum for additional advice)

After the arrival to the US you have 90 days to get married (the sooner the better). Within the 90 days, gather all of the documents you will need and correct forms for filing (view the guides here for filing your AOS and download the forms from USCIS) be very detailed. The cost for filing is still I believe $1010.00 total. Biometrics ...is when the call you in at your local office and fingerprint you.

When to file has been debatable through various discussions here, we filed roughly a week after the 90 days. Getting an Attorney? you really don't need one.....people here are very well versed in this whole process and very helpful.

lawyers are a pain in the butt and really you DO NOT NEED THEM
It's prudent to qualify this blanket statement by saying that most people who can follow instructions and who have uncomplicated circumstances need not have a lawyer do their paperwork for them.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Karena,

I am in a similar situation, and would like my fiance to go through JFK in order to get the EAD as well. Have you found any direct flights to NY or were you going to have him fly through Jamaica? We have been having trouble finding an option other than through Jamaica. Any thoughts?

Hi, threre are no direct flights from Cuba to New York. Jamaica seems the best bet, he can check luggage from Havana all the way to New York, through Montego Bay, and I think it is a four hour layover in the waiting room. In other words, does not have to "enter " Jamaica officially, does not have to get bags and re-check, etc. Mexico is an option, but it seems to be a hassle, and we want to avoid Miami. Right now I am worried because I can't get through on the phone due to Hurricane Ike.---Good luck!---Karena
