Today Natasha was excited to see more letters from the USCIS, which she assumed to be her EAD. Upon opening, she discovered that it wasn't her EAD - it was an interview appointment (for September 29). Now, this just strikes me as peculiar. Notice of interview appointment BEFORE we receive EAD (remember we got AP on Tuesday)?

Now she's freaking out that we won't have all the documents ready since we were waiting for EAD to get 'serious' about document preparation. She's also very insistent on needing the I693 vaccination supplement prepared by a civil surgeon, even though I'm convinced the DS3025 is adequate (no RFE and that's what I submitted with the application). But, it's not that big of a thing so if it gives Natasha peace of mind, we'll go to the civil surgeon and have him copy the data from the DS3025 to the I693 supplement.

So - anyone hear of getting an interview date before receiving EAD? Any opinions on the DS3025 vs I693 supplement?

I don't think it matters much as it's all part of the same package.

The I-693A probably isn't necessary because, like you said, if they're good with the DS-3025 what do they need the other one for? Save your money. Or, learn a valuable marriage lesson already.... spend $35 to shut her up only later to hear her say "Probably we not need zis but good we have because makes for me feel more comfort-able.... anyway, it's only sirty-five bucks."

Bah. I wish my wife had more of a Russian accent. She has almost no accent at all ):

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

There's nothing negative about it, (in fact it's probably pretty nice) it's just that your wife places you in a different situation than most of us face with trying to "Americanize" our wives. The whole "when in Rome" concept seems to be lost on many of them.

I'm not saying I expect anyone's wife to show up here and lose all of her "inner-Russian" I'm just saying it's not unacceptable for her to show up here and get a good job, drive herself around, deal with having to work 5 whole days a week, pay bills, etc.

For some reason, it seems there's a prevailing attitude about showing up here and being "provided for" with no need to actually earn one's own way.

Lucky you guys...I want interview yoo:)you will make it just in time!and you will never hear anymore from your wife how she is bored and has no rights here:)

Bored - I hear this all the time. No rights - haven't heard this one yet (thank goodness).

We went to the mall last night and picked up who knows how many job applications (coming up on the pre-Christmas hiring season), so we'll be busy this weekend filling them all out!

Having a high number of customer interactions is good acclimation to American customer service standards and English usage. A job at the mall will be a great place for that to happen. Good call!

For some reason, it seems there's a prevailing attitude about showing up here and being "provided for" with no need to actually earn one's own way.

I think with the first part I am working against my better interests. I try to help her "perfect" her English but I really enjoy the Russian accent and our own language and feel like I am shooting myself in the foot trying to help. Things like being someplace and I ask her what she wants to eat and she says "insects" which was her word for shrimp. Now I hear her starting to use the word shrimp, darn. It is funny sometimes. When I watch her try to say "this" instead of "zis" I am always afraid she will swallow her tounge. I think I will be surprised if she ever loses her accent completly like Mrs AK.

"Provided for" seems perfectly fair to me. By the time she gets done with school in 2030 she will have enough eduction to get a job that pays twice what I ever made and by that time I will be far too old to work and my vision will be way too gone to drive and she can spend the rest of the time "providing for me" I can stay home and hook a vacume to my walker and do the chores at home which she will be happy not to do so it will be fair for everyone.

Yeah, all the mall apps paid off - Natasha had an interview today at one of the large big-name department stores and was offered a job (pending background check). She should start sometime next week, and she is super excited to finally be able to work! YPA!
