My fiance has her interview scheduled for October 7th, 2008 at the Caracas consulate (Venezuela). We are currently arranging all necessary documents for her interview as per this wonderful site, among others.

My question is: Do I need to be there with her during the interview?I know we have all the documentation(s) required, according to the Caracas embassy, other experiences, and such.

It is not impossible for me to be there (I travel there 2-3 times a year), but again, do I NEED to be there?

I have given her all the documents needed, as well as worked with the NVC for the documents they required of me.

Thanks to all, and congraulations to the many success stories.

I shall keep all informed via our timeline and posted experiences.

Thanks again for any and all advice.

you don't need to be there, but if you can, do so as it won't hurt. i went to nessa's interview and while i don't think my presence made a significant impact on the case officer, it helped nessa more.

eta: you may wish to find out if you are allowed into the interview. in brazil i was. i don't know about Venezuela

We've seen a number of interviews out of South American Consulates result in an initial denial with the requirement the US Citizen come for a joint interview after the fact. If you can arrange to be there, I'd be there.

As others have already advised, it certainly can't hurt for you to be there, even for moral support. If your proof of relationship evidence is strong and well documented, that should diminish the chance of denial even if you're not there. But if it is possible for you to be there, then why not go? And best of luck to you. :)

It is not necessary. I went to our interview as moral support more than anything, and that is about all the purpose it served. I do not think it made any "difference" other than to Alla. I went there and helped her and went with her to gather all the documents, etc. before the interview so she was never alone during the process. It is just the way we did things and she appreciated it. But it is not necessary. I was allowed into the interview, if you can call it that, but it was no questions asked...simply returned the original documents and gave information on getting the visa sent.

What pushbrk says, and I'll urge you beyond that, in the strongest possible terms: BE THERE AT ALL COSTS. Even if you're not allowed "in" the interview, be in the waiting room, or on the consular premises. I wish to high heaven that someone had recommended this to me, and so do several others of my direct acquaintance and contact. Ignore anyone who recommends otherwise. BE THERE FOR THIS INTERVIEW!!!!!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Ask the consulate if you're allowed to be interviewed with your fiance(e), but even if you're not, it'd be good of you to at least drop your fiance(e) off and wait for her. I went with my husband although we had tons of proof and we both felt pretty confident. But when you're there you feel so nervous that it's great to have your SO by your side :). I'm so glad that I went (plus we had our pre-honeymoon in Rio de Janeiro).

The CO talked to me more than he did my husband during our 6-minute interview.

personally, i just finished going through the interview process with my husband at this consulate. and i sincerely believe that me being there made ALL of the difference, they went as far as to interview me as well. The lady even said me being there was one of the best proofs for our case, and me coming there for the interview showed cause for her to be more sure of our relationship.

just my 2 cents.
