Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you

When you think everything's okay and everything's going right

And life has a funny way of helping you out when

You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up

In your face .....

la la la la la.

Alanis, FTW!!!

It's like rain on your wedding day

It's a free ride when you've already paid

It's the good advice that you just didn't take

Who would've thought... it figures

Isn't it Ironic...

Where is the irony folks? Not in Alanis's song and not in this thread.

It exists, trust me.

still don't see how that is hate... a lot of threads about one person = hate  and all those threads started weren't all negative..

I'd say most were, but the funny part is defending a politician like she's the re-incarnation of God herself. Overlooking, and in this case, rolling one's eyes at, the fact that Obama posts were everywhere. Gary especially was being a Hillary vs. Obama nutcase when it came to the end, and, being prophetic-like and saying Obama's election just won it for Republicans. Of course, pulling his pants down for the Republican party one can see how well connected to his Republican politicians (who don't care about him) he is.

well, I think it was a good mix... what I mean by not all negative is that a lot of the OP's were positive...

Not every post needs to be positive. If Gary's offended by criticism of Palin, he should have shut up about Hillary. No one listens to a hypocrite. Least of all, a partisan bickerer all the way to one side, rather than actually criticizing himself or the people he votes for.

The entire reason these stupid issues are being debated is because the politicians want them to be. Yes, it's entirely ironic that Palin preaches abstinence, and her daughter is a victim of the abstinence bullshit that ends up getting kids pregnant since they're going to have sex anyways and simply be clueless and irrational and make mistakes about it not being educated. But it has no bearing really on her ability to be a President.

However, I guarantee you Palin wants one to talk about this sort of thing, because all it does is levy hard line Republican supporters to find reasons to support her, and Democrats finding reasons to be against her. Now, if we talk about fiscal responsibility, or respect for the Constitution and judicial rulings, things that affect every single person, then you might start seeing people in her own party start to criticize her. These wedge issues is exactly what they want to aim at, as you can see by Rove's strategies, and Jon Stewart playing into his hands. Pointing out Republican hypocrisy, especially in moral standards is more fun than accomplishing in getting votes. Moralists don't suddenly go introspective once you feed them their hypocrisy, they just get more defensive and excusing of it.

In the end, idiots just vote for the one who preaches the loudest, regardless of how hypocritical they end up being. And people like Gary look funny to people like me because he ultimately will take a boot up the ### from his politicians, and in the end consider an illustration of a person with a McCain boot up his ### cheering for McCain. Hell, I've at least, to the Obamanuts' credits, an ability to criticize their own candidates and at least, for a split second, be objective. Haven't seen Gary objective since I've posted here.

So Democrats are the suck-ups and Republicans are the dividers. I can semi-relate to the suckups even though I'm not voting Democrat, but the ones keen on dividing the country by morals, rather than unite them by service and progress, seem to always been in turmoil.

In regards to LaL's religion thing, I am agnostic and have no problem being vocally aggressive against religion when it's necessary. The ability to criticize myself and question myself is what got me here, from being a Christian (surrounded in both Catholic and EO Christian family, one being on each side) and I'd much rather be solidly objective and not have a stance than blindly have one and refuse to criticize, question, and opt to just follow for whatever reason I can make up.

it's funny because I stumbled upon this page earlier today... 9 Words That Don’t Mean What You Think

Ironic

People think it means:

Any kind of amusing coincidence.

Actually means:

An outcome that is the opposite of what you’d expect.

So, if a porn star moved to Virgin, Utah, that would be ironic. If the same porn star bought a house in ####### Knob, Montana that would not be ironic.

Should you care?

We realize this is a technical point. But, it’s almost worth taking a stand because the word has been abused to the point that it can mean anything.

“She always said she wanted to marry a dentist! And then she married Bob, who is a dentist! Isn’t that ironic?”

“I went on my cigarette break, but there was a No Smoking sign! Isn’t that ironic?”

“I just pooped in your aquarium! Isn’t that ironic?”

We have to draw the line somewhere, don’t we?

For God knows how many years, many have used Bush's gaffes during speeches as proof that he's a moron.

And O's only gotten as far as he did because he's a v charismatic speaker.

I don't care who's made what speech in front of even 10k people. She spoke to the fkin nation...no, the WORLD...and no one knew the diff. That's impressive.

ETA: I didn't lol at the lipstick/pitbull comment

Did she though? Did she really?

I read that speech and re-read it and I don't see anything particularly profound in it that stands out in a memorable way.

She told a lot of stories about her family and did the usual round of dissing the opposition. But beyond it seems that you've got to look elsewhere for policy commitments.

She spoke to the world?

Ok, I'll accept that speaking in front of a large audience knowing you are going to be viewed by a larger audience via visual media is not a cake walk (I think I already acknowledged that already, but I'll say it again) and from an oratatory point of view, she was very creditable but I will ask again, is that all that is required of a politician to transform them from relatively obscure governor to creditable VP candidate?

Also, are these rabble rousing speaches, which are written by others and rehearsed ever an acceptable way to make a decision as to anyone's political capablities or indeed the direction that the candidates or the party is going to take come inaugeration?

It brings me great joy to see that the Republicans now have some of that Kool-Aid that us Obama supporters were allegedly drinking.

And I DO take great joy in watching them get all kinds of sh!t for their fawning over Palin. "Isn't she so HOT?" "She can speak without a teleprompter!" "She's a Hockey Mom!" "She won a beauty contest!" The people whining now are the same people who were slamming Hillary and Obama supporters a few months ago.

How do you like it now, mutha f##kers?

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

She didn't speak to the world? Gimme a break.

Had she mucked up in any way, it'd be shown on every station on the planet. Give.me.a.break. and let's not split hairs.

Really? I very much doubt that it would and what exactly constitutes 'mucking up' in this context? Did everyone expect her to be perfect? I believe most people, myself included, would have given her credit even if she had fluffed a few lines because the telly prompter broke, but it didn't and she didn't. That is meant to be a big deal? GIVE ME A BREAK. She is good at public speaking as are many, many other people and???

Anyone who takes an acting class can do public speaking. Its just about confidence and preparation.

Or anyone who's worked in television, I would think. Even if it's only local news.
