Tomorrow is my last day at work. I am losing my job because of company's new cost-cutting strategy. After doing some research, I found that EAD will make me eligible for unemployment benefits. But I want to make sure that if I claim this should not go against me during my interview. My wife goes to school and we showed my full-time job's salary for I-824.

Any idea guys?

if i remember correctly, somewhere when you were filing your papers, there was a question of whether you have any government assistance such as food stamps, unemployment benefits etc. So I think you should just find some job to hold you till you get your interview which shouldn't be too far away. Hey man you got the EAD man, you can work anywhere now.............

You don't want to do anything to give them any question or raise any flags.. just my opinion

True but I dont want to take any job. I have studied for 6 years in USA and after working in White collor job, I dont want to do blue collor one (No flipping burger at BK or no folding clothes at gap for me)....

I was laid off a few weeks ago and at that time i still havent received my EAD. But I called in the walk in unemployment center and ask. Apparently there is a "SAVE" unit that determines if you are eligible for the claim. I think with the EAD on hand it means I have the ability to work given I land on a new job, and my status is being adjusted to a permanent resident after the interview... but that's my case...

I received NOA for interview today in the mail. It is going to be on February 18, 2009. Does anyone know usually how long on average it takes to receive green card after interview?

I JUST HAD AN ENCOUNTER HERE WHERE THEY DONT CONSIDER MY EAD CARD AS VALID ID BECAUSE ITS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND MY HUSBAND WONDERED WHY WHEN IN FACT ITS A FEDERAL ID, ITS EVEN MORE THAN STATE ID, THATS WHY WE ARE CONSIDERING OF GETTING ONE....

IF THEY ONLY KNOW WHAT WE WENT THROUGH TO GET ONE! BUT ITS OK MY HUBBY SAID MAYBE THEY JUST DONT KNOW WHAT IS IT...

Hi J,

Yes, as far as i know your EAD is acceptable identification... don't know why they gave you a problem. It is in fact acceptable ID, esp if you present it w/ your foreign passport & ssn card.

You should be able to get a state ID using all of the above forms of identification presented together. Check the website of your local Dept of Motor Vehicles... they might be able to issue you a non-driver's license (state photo ID).

No, we haven't made one yet...He was rather dubious about whether that would work, tho I think your story might have swayed some opinions

I did send an e-mail to the Ombudsman tonight, and told hubby that if we don't hear anything from them by next week, we're going to have to make the drive.
