September AOS filers

i got another USCIS e-mail this morning:

Current Status: Approval notice sent.

On December 23, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I765 APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.

but then earlier last week I got this:

Application Type: I765 , APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION

Current Status: Card production ordered.

On December 18, 2008, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

so are EAD cards ordered before we get approved??? that's so strange as I think it should work the other way around....

Just hopping over from the October filers. I've pretty much had the same thing with the EAD and got the same e-mail today also - I think it must be pretty standard stuff. I was noticing your timeline since I am in Boston too - good to see you got an interview notice...it gives me hope that mine may be on it's way soon! Good luck!

As a response, USCIS wrote the ombudsman that they will try to process EAD pending over 90 days within 4 hours when an applicant shows up to an infopass appointment.

4 hours! wouldn't that be the greatest?!

so, an update from my side:

called to make another service request for an interim ead today as we are at about 93 days or so...

the guy was nice, and said we should hear something in 5 days. he said we couldn't do the interim over the phone, which of course, contradicts what we were told earlier.

but still, i'm happy that he said 5 days, instead of 45 days. who knows, maybe we'll have some luck?

we still have an infopass sent up for next Monday.

here's hoping for the best for all of us!

but then when u see "approval notice sent", it means they already sent u the card..

usually, from your 2nd card production ordered email, count 5-7 days..

that's the time you'll receive your precious ead..

I think my recent touches and e-mails are a result of my husband calling the USCIS... we think it's the calls that trigger them... but it kind of surprised me that things suddenly move forward at a fast pace despite the holiday seasons. I wish you will hear your interview date soon!

The officer I talked to was very positive that her e-mail should speed up the process.

So, I am almost positive that as soon as you talk to the officer next Monday, your EAD is on its way to be approved.

call them. I really think a phone call will trigger your case (if your case has been pending for over 90 days)

When you go to apply for jobs, and it ask for references, what do people put

who haven't worked here before?

Do you just leave them blank?

It always says you can't put a relative as a reference.

Is it okay to leave it blank?

I would try not to leave it blank. I have a few references from Holland that I usually put there. They are supervisors from places where I worked and former coworkers. I would imagine that some employers don't like to contact people from abroad, but I know employers who have. I am registered at 2 staffing agencies and they contacted my former employers and said they got some very strong references from them, which is always good

So I would suggest that if you have any references from abroad, just put them there.

Yes! Everybody has to fill taxes (even undocumented immigrants!, they just get something called ITIN). I'm currently on H1-B visa but have been filling taxes since 2005.

Taxes are due April 15th, so you have plenty of time. Please note that you need to tramit your SSN to do your taxes. The advantage is that for tax purposes since you are married to a USC citizen for IRS purposes you are 'resident' already, so you can fill married filling jointly and get the same deductions that U.S citizens get.
