Hello everyone,

So I just called USCIS since it's been 90 days from date of receipt that I have not got any update on my EAD or AP, also after filing a service request last monday. So the lady looked at my file and I did not have to mention interim EAD, she after looking at my file suggested that I can do two things:

1. apply for interim EAD over the phone

2. Go to my local office and apply there, where she also stated that they do not issue Interim EAD at the office but they look at your eligibility and apply for you. And since my local office is about 2 hours away, i just applied over the phone.

So she gave me a confirmation number and said that if I don't hear anything within 45 days to call them again. So either way, still waiting. They should have interim EADs expedited like something like within a week, and not 45 days.

So I hope this helps some of you guys waiting. I mean the officer was nice and all and it does not benefit anyone if you get mad or frustrated with them because they are not the one issuing them to you and they have very little information on your status. All they can do is apply and follow procedure, so all we can do is just pray and wait.

Good luck all

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hope you'll hear from them soon!

What is exactly an interim EAD? is it like they're going to stamp you passeport to be able to work for 90 days?

the USCIS customer service lady told me it looks just like the regular EAD (a card), but it is only good for 240 days or something like that... as opposed to 365 days. wish they would send one to our house.

Because they have no access to ex-employers, police records etc... if they have no accessible history for you, then you could be a liability to them - paid or unpaid, unfortunately just the way it is, companies have to protect themselves.

From what I know, the interim EAD is valid for 240 days unlike the regular EAD which is good for one year. Basically the interim is given when your file is outside regulatory period which is 90 days from date of receipt.

Isn't it what USCIS checks for so long while we are waiting for our visa with the G325, for example? and after the embassy when they ask for police records? If you were issued a visa, it means you good, isn't it?! Employers shouldn't worry!

unfortunately that's not how it works.. :(

if u apply for jobs, they're gonna do background check again and again..

they wouldn't care if u just finished background check for your EAD or GC..

This is silly!

Other than that I'm so disappointed! I just checked the mail after the postman finished to put evrything in the boxes and there were nothing for me! I leave tomorrow morning for 2 weeks in Boston....I was expecting at least my AP since they sent it on the 10th, it should have been here by now, and I could have been to Montreal to see some friends for the holidays, but no! :(

And of course I was hoping a Xmas miracle to get my EAD by magic in the mail before leaving...
