HUNTINGTON BEACH - Deputies with Sheriff's Harbor Patrol found a decapitated lamb floating in the harbor on Saturday, authorities said.

Around 6 p.m., Mike Wentworth, 24, of Huntington Beach was kayaking in the harbor near Heil Street with friends when they saw a bag in the distance.

"We got a little closer and saw what appeared to be hair through the bag," Wentworth said. "We thought it was something human or a dog."

They got a man on a nearby boat to call Harbor Patrol.

"He said it was the most rotten smell of his life," Wentworth said.

A deputy responding to a call of a dead dog found the bag, and when he opened it, found a lamb whose head had been chopped off, Sgt. Fritz von Rettberg said.

A brassiere was wrapped around the lamb's midsection, Von Rettberg said.

There haven't been any other incidents of the sort in the harbor, he said.

In November 2007, several headless goats and chickens were found in Laguna Beach.

New traffic roundabouts are moving experiences

There's a circle near here that used to be quite nice a few decades ago (or so they tell me, I wasn't around), but now it's a nightmare.

This is what it looks like today:

That doesn't look like a true roundabout to me! I'm scared!!

The roundabouts they put in our village - Hamburg, NY are great! They really facilitate the flow of traffic nicely. My British expat husband loves them and took it as a sign that our living there was meant to be!!

Hats off to Harley's party!

If you had any doubt why recent descriptions of Milwaukee include the words "sexy" and "cool," all you had to do was hang around Milwaukee last weekend.

No one knows how to throw a party better then Harley-Davidson and no one serves as better hosts then the people of Milwaukee. There are events and then there are the Harley-Davidson anniversary celebrations. And the 105th Anniversary celebration proved that the company and the celebration just get better with age...

The short-term benefits of the event are apparent - well over 40,000 hotel room nights consumed and business swelling at area restaurants and attractions. When you factor all of this in and the approximately 125,000 to 150,000 visitors that participated in the event, we estimate that some $40 million was poured into the local economy.

The bikers may have left, but their impact will be felt long-term. We now have tens of thousands of new goodwill ambassadors singing our praises with the potential for them to return as visitors, bring business to the city or perhaps even relocate as new residents...

To see those Harley riders in the parade down Wisconsin Avenue with their flags waving from so many different countries, all yelling "thank you Milwaukee," is truly a tribute to the warmth of our people. This hospitality is also an attribute that differentiates us from all other communities.

Congratulations to Harley-Davidson for helping us put Milwaukee on the map and making us just a little bit cooler and sexier!

That doesn't look like a true roundabout to me! I'm scared!!

It used to be a true roundabout. But that's what it has evolved into.

We still have quite a few 'true' roundabouts. Here's one, that I drive through every day to and from work. It's much nicer, but they plan to "enhance" it

Firefighters dodge griller's dinnerware

By WILLIAM BENDER

Philadelphia Daily News

Delaware County firefighters are accustomed to performing dangerous and often thankless duties, but they're not used to dodging dinnerware.

Police say that 29-year-old Anthony Derubeis was cooking the books - actual books, on a grill - yesterday morning and apparently didn't want to be bothered.

Firefighters responding to the post-Labor Day book-becue in Upper Darby were greeted by an unforeseen hazard: the flying dinner plate.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood Sr. said that Derubeis, for reasons unknown, began winging plates and full water bottles at them from his back deck.

"Whatever he could get his hands on, he was throwing at them," Chitwood said.

Derubeis ran inside his Alverstone Road home while the fire continued to burn. Cops tried to get him to come outside, to no avail.

"He replied, 'I ain't coming the [bleep] outside,' " Chitwood said. "The next thing you know, there was a fight. He got in a fight with the police, and the police had to subdue him."

Derubeis was awaiting arraignment yesterday afternoon on charges of simple and aggravated assault, arson, risking a catastrophe, resisting arrest and seven counts of recklessly endangering another person. No injuries were reported.

"We feel the guy may have some mental-health issues that have to be dealt with," Chitwood said.

Are your roundabouts one or two laned? Ours are two laned which seem to be the source of the most confusion. The one laned roundabouts seems so much easier to navigate.

In my village they are all one lane, but I do live in a small village. However, that doesn't mean people actually know how to use them! Just about everyday, some idiot is found stranded on top of the roundabout! For some reason, they try to drive right over the top!
