Marriage license for AOS / Texas

Hey folks,

I just filed my AOS/AP/EAD application last week. So count me in for the August filers

Anyways, do you know the feeling that you think about what you've done over and over again ? Here's why I do it: We got our marriage license from the County Clerk's office approx. 2 weeks before we got married. After the ceremony, the minister signed and dated the license and gave it back to us, so that we could file it at the County Clerk's office. We did that 2 days after we got married. When we filed the license, the CC's employee gave us 3 certified copies of the marriage license with a "filed" stamp on it, for things like name change etc.

Exactly this certified copy of the filed, executed marriage license is what I enclosed to the AOS package. When asking the CC's employee about the marriage certificate, he told us that Texas does not issue separate marriage certificates - after the marriage was recorded, you get the license back.

Should we have waited for the original "recorded" marriage license to come back or is the certified copy of the filed executed version fine ?

Thanks,

Daniel

wont matter the change of name is with SS and the other things you will file. AOS is what I see as a jump in the dark, the best prepared take forever and the least prepared sometimes prevail. All I can say is good luck to you.

Hi there :). The County courthouse where we got married also just gave us a certified copy of marriage license with the seal and signature of the judge that married us. They told us that they do not issue separate marriage certificates too.I filed a copy of that certified marriage license in my AOS package and I didn't had any problem about it. I just recently got approved without an interview in my AOS. I think you'll be fine if you just send a copy of your certified marriage license. Good luck.

I told the judge that married us (in Collin County, TX) that we wanted to file ourselves to get copies. He took it with him and said not to worry, we should get the original back within a week and we could pick up the certified copies from his office. We did that, and sure enough, the original licence/certificate was recorded and we got it in the mail about a week after our wedding. Look on the back when you get it and you will see a bunch of stuff added to it.

So you should get it shortly. FYI, remember that you are sending the copies in with your AOS package, but take the ORIGINAL to your biometrics appt.

Good luck!

Yes, whatever you do, do not forget to take your original marriage license to your biometrics app. I did not know I had to take mine and never had it with me either when I went there, but the gentleman was reallllllllllyyyyyy realllllyyyyyyy nice to me and said he would do it anyways. So I didn't have to re- schedule my biometrics. But they might not always be that nice!
