Family Leave

Balancing a career and the birth of a new child, and taking care of our sons and daughters when they get sick or injured can be challenging, but John McCain knows that as Americans, we’ve demonstrated that we can persevere, just as we did during the Industrial Revolution and the Great Depression.

That’s why John McCain voted to suspend the Family and Medical Leave Act in 1993. John McCain knows that allowing freeloaders who want to take time off to care for their newborn babies, or attend to their children when they get hurt or fall ill, isn’t as important as making sure that compliance would not increase business expenses or provide financial assistance to businesses to cover any related costs. While countries in Europe may offer family and medical leave that goes beyond what most American workers receive, and some employers even allow paid time off for liberals who don’t earn their keep, it’s the “rugged individualism” of leaders like John McCain that reminds us that as Americans, we shouldn’t be afraid to do things differently than what may be the status quo in other developed nations.

That’s what America is all about, and that’s the leadership we deserve for the future - but in order to get there, we’ve got to do our part to help elect John McCain as our next President of the United States.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

truth,,,

Sen. McCain was among 16 Republicans to back the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) in 1993. However, Sen. McCain has questioned Democratic proposals to expand the FMLA on the ground that such proposals constitute an “unfunded liability” for businesses. McCain has consistently opposed increases in the minimum wage.

From:

JOHN McCAIN’S FAILING RECORD ON GOOD JOBS

...

McCain Voted to Gut the Family and Medical Leave Act. In 1993, before finally voting for the Family and Medical Leave Act, McCain voted to jeopardize leave for millions of workers by gutting the bill. He voted to suspend the act unless the federal government either certified that compliance would not increase costs for business or provided financial assistance to businesses to cover any costs associated with implementing the law.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Oh man, I have strong opinions about Medical Leaves of absence as you well know brother Dean. This ####### is just wrong --- god forbid your spouse or child get hurried to hospital for a long timel because you are obviously expendable and can go fukc yourself. Not cool.

Isn't there a neat catch phrase that sums this up?

Oh yeah: "You're on your own!"

I'm not sure about the FMLA act, but I know he would likely vote against the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and wants to put me in Social Security when I already belong to an adequate pension plan. These are two of the reasons I'm voting against him.

Is there a link to that piece? It's interesting stuff and shouldn't be ignored in favour of the political mud slinging, but it will be. Not that social issues will decide the election, the price of gas and each parties' response to that price and percieved job opportunities and related economic issues will probably be the predominant factors.

Interesting. Of course to get the 'big picture' I would have to research everything he voted for and against on these issues, but as a snapshot, not very promising for the average working person.

none of this sh!t really matters (fmla, unwed mothers, et al) ... when will one of these two candidates step up and talk about how they are going to fix this country before it collapses under the weight of its own debt....

YMMV
