I am extremely disappointed in the choice of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Republican Party.

Role models are very important. Children and young adults look to those who are visible and successful as a road map of what is acceptable behavior and emulate those actions over the morals and values their parents and churches have taught and tried to reinforce.

I’m stunned - couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didn’t want a "mature" woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?

I am haunted by the family pictures of the Palins during political photo-ops, showing the eldest daughter, now pregnant with her own child, cuddling the family's newborn. When Mom and Dad both work full-time (no matter how many folks get involved with the children), it becomes a somewhat chaotic situation. Certainly, if a child becomes ill and is rushed to the hospital, and you’re on the hotline with both Israel and Iran as nuclear tempers are flaring, where's your attention going to be? Where should your attention be? Well, once you put your hand on the Bible and make that oath, your attention has to be with the government of the United States of America.

Any full-time working wife and mother knows that the family takes the short end of the stick. Marriages and the welfare of children suffer when a stressed-out mother doesn’t have time to be a woman, a wife, and a hands-on Mommy.

Dr Laura sends a shudder down my back.

I remember when the story broke about her mother being found dead in suspicious circumstances. Granted her and her mother were apparently estranged but she goes on air making out how they hadn't talked for years but that "it was her choice". She didn't seem at all upset or concerned about the death and addressed in a matter of fact way. I have to say - that creeped me out.

And I don't have the best relationship with my parents...

Who in heckers is this woman and why haven't I heard of her before? On a brief perusal of that website, I would have to say her views are not moderate. Crikey!

She does a self-help advice show in California (though I think she's syndicated nationwide). The wife and I used to listen to her show - mainly because we were amazed about horrible and unpleasant she is.

Extremely judgemental and she uses other her callers problems to basically promote her own views on things like abortion. I was disgusted with one of her shows where a teenage girl called up in tears (and you could hear in her voice how desperate she was) - she had gotten pregnant, didn't want it, didn't know how she was going to take care of a child and terrified her parents were going to find out.

So along comes that old dragon Dr Laura with "So you want to flush your baby down the toilet..."

She's also told people over the radio to get divorced.

I am so sick of people like this undermining women being working mothers and wives. We've let husbands do it for millennia. When I got married, everyone asked me if I was going to quit med school. NO. When I tell people when we plan on having kids, they keep asking if I'll quit, ummm NO! Why do we as a society want to waste 1/2 our population's talent and intelligence cleaning house and having babies. If a woman wants to stay home with her family, cool. If she wants go out and work, cool too. I have much more earning potential than my husband, and he wants to stay home with the family, yet SOOOO many people can't understand how I could leave my kids or some ####### like that. It just drives me nuts how kids are "suffering" if a woman works but say nothing if the dad works. Ugh, people need to get over themselves and worry more about how they live their life than how the rest of live ours.
