The green card will come anywhere from 1-3 months. If you requested for an SSN to be assigned to you when you applied, then you should wait 2-4 weeks. If the SS card does not show up, then go to the SSA and check if they have your SSN in their system. Take your passport with the I-551 stamp. Have a filled out SSN application form ready in case they don't show your SSN in their system. With the I-551 stamp as proof of your LPR status, they should give you an unrestricted SS card.

Edited to add:

You don't need to wait for your green card to apply for work. Your I-551 stamp is sufficient evidence that you are legal permanent resident and legally allowed to work, travel in/out of the country.

check my signature below for timeline of my Greencard. Also, not everyone has interview to complete AOS application. There are some that didn't pass thru interview session anymore.. Regarding the SSN, there are some State that they're very particular with SSN application if the reference is the I-94.

There are some Social Security Administration Office that refuses to issue SSN to applicants who entered USA by K1 Visa..although there's a notice that you can print out & show it to SSAOffice if in case they will have in doubt of issuing you a SSN. Secure a copy of this when you apply for SSN.

HI,

Since you are in CR1 visa you can receive your green card in 2-4 weeks. About applying SSN, try to remember if you checked the question in DS... (i forgot the form.. it is a question regarding if you wish to apply SSN) if you checked it then no need to go to SSA office or else your SSN will be doubled like me... (but I resolved it already). Hope this will answer your querry... TC and God bless
