Hi guys,

Just want to know, I will be arriving in the US with K3 visa, when should I apply for greencard, the process and how is the waiting?

Thanks for all your answers.

God speed.

Sometime between after you arrive and you have all the evidence gathered and until your K-3 visa expires in about 2 years. Currently I-485's are probably on average 5-6- mos.

It is really your choice... there are different scenarios that have different levels of importance to people....

YMMV

Thanks Fwaguy,

We have a lawyer, do we need to do this through him? Our 1-130 is already approved.

Lawyers are not required in order to file any forms or applications with USCIS. It's entirely up to you, however, you may need some of the papers in the lawyer's file if you don't have them already.

Start with the AOS guide.

A lawyer is not required, but some people choose to hire one for a variety of reasons. But remeber that like every other profession, there are good lawyers and there are bad lawyers.

I think most here would agree that unless your case is very complicated (you overstayed a visa, were deported, have criminal record, etc), you do not need a lawyer. The process is very straight-forward, as long as you can read and follow instructions. The money you spend (some say waste) on a lawyer can be used to go on a nice vacation or as a down payment on a car.

Also, there are many people who have hired lawyers and wish that they never have. Lawyers can and do screw-up many cases in a number of different ways: sending in the wrong forms, forgetting documents, sending to the wrong adress, or just simply "forgetting" to send an application altogether.
