Soviet Propaganda Posters

Back in my Navy days, the compartmentalized spaces I worked in were covered in Soviet propaganda posters and other Soviet stuff. Because of the nature of the work, they felt we should be in a semi "immersive" environment. Anyway, I was always fascinated and often impressed at the artwork. Stylistically it was ominous and Orwellian, but often times very creative and even whimsical.

So I recently stumbled across this collection of old Soviet-era posters. Cool stuff if you're in to it. Enjoy.

I looked at what seemed like 200 and then realized there were 200+ more.

I'll be back here next time I'm three sheets to the wind... should be fun to queue up that slideshow and sit back. Before it's all over I'll probably have my rifle out and be all kitted-up, ready to rumble Red Dawn style ala '85.

Til then, it's kind of nice to see that propaganda is propaganda, across the board. Movie posters and art festival stuff is cool too. Circus posters are always cool no matter which language they're in. Before all is said and done, I can see a few of these printed out and hanging on my wall. Thanks, mox, I'll be sure to send you the bill for the color cartridges.

Alot of these are kinda more artistic than communism oriented ones. I had a friend who wanted to open up "Back to USSR" Restaurant/Bar, with that kind of approach, red lights, lots of propaganda stuff and soviet memorabilia!!

Oh that's cool! It actually comes from one of the "propaganda" posters, it's an ad for pacifiers.

The soccer moms of the PTA would have a fit if the girls here "went wild" like the ones in those photos. Graduation would be cancelled and diplomas would be sent in the mail.

I guess it's only fair though because unlike our boys here who get to lounge around all summer playing X-Box in their mom's basement, those young men get sent off to conscriptions... at least they get some eye-candy on the way out..... and then some more if they're lucky enough to be assigned to a unit like the ones above.
