Nev or Nevada

My name's Nevada-Blue, my mother is the only person who calls me by my full name.

Aww Sprailenes, I love your name! So how do you deal with the hyphonated name on your papers ? Do they believe blue is your middle name ? :P

My name is Marie-Josee, and I just have everybody calling me Marie. I don't like people calling me Josee, or Marie-Jo. And since I moved here I tell people it's Marie because it's too complicated for them to pronounce my name and make it sound like "Jozeee".

I've been having alot of problems on all my applications , and I always have to remind them that Josee isn't my middle name, as they often refer me as Marie J. And of course I don't have a middle name, although I got those 3 other names on my baptism certificate with Marie in front of it. Enough Marie already

No because my middle name is...Sky.

Nevada-Blue Sky :(

Yea my mom wore bellbottoms and probably indulged in a little LSD.

My name is Laura and my sisters name is Holly. My mum deliberatly gave us names that could not be changed. We don't have middle names either, mum said she couldn't see the point. My OH is called Thomas but no one ever calls him that, it's always Tom. Wo betid you call him Tommy! He calls me hun and I call him pig as he eats so much!

Interesting. My kids are named Kiera and Dalton and I chose those names for many reasons, one being that they couldn't be shortened. For some reason however, my son, who's middle name is Jason, started to be called DJ. That name has also stuck. I told him when he gets older he might appreciate having a name other than DJ.

lol about your mom!

I still think you have a pretty name :)

ETA: It's like those pretty hyphenated names in French, like Marie-Soleil (soleil= sun) or Marie-Mai (mai=may) or Marie-Lune (lune= moon)

I love those

Hi Everyone,

Funny, how so many of us are known as "Resident" too.... . How can we tell one "resident" apart from another "resident"?

Hmmm...this reminds me, on a similar note, according to the USCIS' eyes, we're also known as

-"Petitioner"

-"Beneficiary"

Doesn't sound too personal now, does it? No wonder the mail gets lost at times...

You are good my friend, and listen to this one:

A very enterprising friend (oh this is a long time ago, in Montreal), said he had a room-mate named Yoonk Mayl spelled

J-U-N-K M-A-I-L.

And as Ma Bell was laughing at him, he got quite serious and said that his Vietnamese room-mate would not appreciate this from a telephone service provider, and could she stop laughing and put that down on the telephone bill as the main person to be addresses.

Well, any mail coming to his place addresses to Junk Mail, or Mr. Junk Mail, he knew was an unsolicited piece, the name having been found in the phone book.

Oh the good ol' days when that was all we had.

I loved this story.

Nevada, your name is lovely. Just like my friends who are native American.... very unique NA names with a specific reason behind the name and for the process.

Being the last of 13 kids, most of my siblings refer to me as Brat. They paved the way for me to be able to do much more than they did while living at home.

A few friends call me KelKat. For the most part though, ppl call me by my name - Kelly.

As for my daugther, I thought I had given her a name that couldn't be shortened - Kelsie. guess who shortened it first - . I call her Kels, baby girl, mewtew (must have come from the days when she was watching something on tv), and of course when I'm nuts with her she gets Kelsie Irene Alice......

Wow last of 13? What was it like growing up in your house?

I used to be Amanda McILveen (mack-ill-veen) and every one pretty much called me Mack, Mands, Manda, Mandy, etc.

I did have one great name though throughout highschool. My close friends called me Gentle Ben. Gentle Ben was a character in a few simpson's episodes. In one in particular he is supposed to be hosting a TV talk show but keeps attacking any one who comes near the food table. They called me this because I seem so calm until someone really pushes me and than I get very mad.

It stuck for about 5 years or so.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Sigh....I've never had a nickname. My full name is Karen Cherié (first and middle) and when Momma called me by BOTH names in a particular tone of voice, I *knew* I was in trouble!

Hubby calls me honey or sugarbear. Our daughter's name is Anna and lots of people call her Anna Banana, which she hates. When I was pregnant with her, I called her "Blossom"...sometimes I call her "Anna B". She doesn't seem to mind so much. Her full name though is Anna Naomi.

I don't think hubby has a nickname either...his name is Joel. I just call him honey or honey bun. :)
