She has five kids and didn't choose abortion even when she knew her child would have Downs Syndrome.

Why did she get pregnant with a one in 30 chance of having a Down's syndrome child? Does she like to roll the dice? Or does she have absolute faith? In which case, God made her child have Down's syndrome. She could have adopted but I guess God wanted her to get pregnant and have the baby. Typical right wing thinking--everyone should carry their child to term but don't ask me to help them. Is her family "typical" today? How many unwed mothers have the resources Palin's family offers?

One thing is certain...she is drawing fire away from McCain....

Gary, do you think she's experienced to be a heartbeat away from the top job? Can you sell that, without bringing up Obama?

She already has more executive experience than Obama. Given the choice between the two I would choose Palin any day.

So, do you think her record stands on its own? Because it seems that you do need to use Obama as a comparison in that answer. What specifically about her two years experience is good enough for you?

Ok, I'll answer. Then your turn.

I see the President more as an influential figure. Someone to inspire (eg Kennedy and the Space Race) and to set a tone for the country (although I wasn't paying much attention to US politics in the late 70s/early 80s, it appears that Reagen was able to do that in a way that Carter was not - the 'morning in America' ad, for example). I see these things in Obama. He is bringing people into politics in a way that has little to no precedent. If that many people care about the country, and will follow through beyond Nov, that's great for the US - regardless of whether you're left or right. People do need to get involved in their communities, and I see that possibility with an Obama victory.

Now. What do you see in Palin?

So in other words it's not about experience. I see.

Keep in mind that McCain HAS the experience needed now as opposed to Obama using some sort of a magical power of persuasion to bring the country together. But to answer your question on Palin, First and foremost she is a conservative. That is what is important to me. She brings an unashamed set of values with her that is exactly what I want to see in a VP. She had the guts and determination to stand up to corruption even in her own party and clean house. Can Obama say that? He came up in one of the most corrupt political landscapes in the country, Chicago. Have you seen any attempt from Obama to try and correct any of that? Nope. In fact he embraced that corruption with his association of Rezco. I also like the idea that she has no ties to Washington and no back she has to scratch. I would hope that when McCain wins he will turn her loose on Washington and shake it right down to it's roots.

So if she was the presidential candidate rather than McCain, and she was running against a democrat with many years of political experience and accomplishments behind him or her, who would you vote for? Would it depend on the issues, or would your vote remain the same since you are obviously a devout republican?

As far as I am concerned Palin has it over Obama with both experience and issues. What the dems try so hard to sweep under the rug is that Obama has no relevant experience. At least Palin has 2 years of executive experience. Something that Obama does not have in any way. But the point is this. It's Obama vs MCCAIN! McCain is vastly more experienced than Obama. This massive personal attack that Palin is being treated to puts a fine point on that. They are grasping at any perceived weakness and this is the best they can come up with. Putting that all aside though, given the choice between Palin and Obama I would gladly choose Palin based on values, experience and character. Obama is just an empty suit.

She pushed for it like Stevens until Congress started asking questions and criticizing it, then said screw it.

This is not some pork spending hawk. To think so is to have one's head crammed up her ###. She only did it because of Congress.

Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now - while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.

Just a note Charles, she supported it in 2006, when the bridge was being laid out. After Congress threw a fit in 2007, she suddenly opposed it. It's not to say she didn't open her eyes, but it took national attention to do it, so she certainly is no champion of pork barrel slashing.

marginally true - congress pulled a large amount of the money back. also, you are off in the year - congress threw a fit in 2005.

In 2005 [5], Congress stripped the specific earmark allocation of federal funds for the two bridges, without changing the the amount of money allocated for use by Alaska.[6] Without the earmark from Congress, Alaska's portion of the bill would have doubled, from $160M (40%) to $329M (82%) of the bridge's cost.[7] Despite the bridge being on hold, the Palin administration allocated tens of millions of dollars of federal funds to begin construction of the Gravina island road to an empty beach meant to link to the bridge.
