Sarah Palin and the Two Americas

A desperate race is underway, with the liberal media scampering to define Sarah Palin to the public as a dangerous religious fanatic and naïve hick, some kind of back woods primitive incapable of effectively discharging the awesome job of president, soon to be thrust upon her as John McCain expires right after his inauguration. Tonight, Governor Palin will have her opportunity to speak directly to the American people, and thanks to the blizzard of critical coverage, she will be no doubt attract an enormous audience.

The "liberal" media was quite happy to entertain every outlandish accusation against Clinton, including the alleged assasination of Vince Foster. Now you fault them for reporting what no one has denied are the bare facts.

I'm beginning to understand this argument from Consvatives more than ever in this election, though, and as a paid-up member of the yuppie coastal elite I have resisted it for a long time.

Yeah - but they always have to excuse themselves from criticism.

I've been pretty turned off some of the election discussions back when every single op-ed article about Obama that anyone could possibly dredge up was posted without regard to content or quality control. Suddenly I'm supposed to be surprised because Palin is getting a turn of what the other guys have had. I mean really - if you don't think this is justifiable (and it isn't) why go around and do it to other people?

I do think it takes a lot of brass face to make out that their the victims in all this - when they've been giving out the same medicine in equal measure for years now. But then again this is a journo columnist who essentially gets paid to lie for a living.

Nope - I'm not surprised at all.

Why do we assume she must be stupid?

Since she's been to Kuwait and has a son serving in Iraq I'm pretty sure she knows where Afghanistan is

Because she has a 17yr old knocked up daughter and she thinks every american family is cool with it. Maybe she needs to do some educating at home first, before she starts preaching to the rest of the nation of what she can do for us. Perhaps she has some items on her 'to-do' list at home that aren't taken care of.

My sister was pregant at 17 - is my mother stupid?

She lacked to teach your sister some items. Your mother is not running for the VP of the US either. With that type of status, you should have a solid background, and her's is closer to Britney's than to a real VPs.

And to Gary's "are you running scared" I'm running and laughing my a$$ off with this nominee. I think its a joke.

Gary, do you think she's experienced to be a heartbeat away from the top job? Can you sell that, without bringing up Obama?

She already has more executive experience than Obama. Given the choice between the two I would choose Palin any day.

I think you take from these comments little more than what you wanted to believe to begin with.

The irony of course is that you pulled no punches in doing the exact same thing to Obama. Not that I care particularly - but it just goes to show that while the candidates might be promoting themselves as agents of change - little to nothing has changed in the public arena.

Is that so now? How is it that my brother and I had exacly the same background and both were not teenaged parents and went on to get advanced college degrees and great jobs? Just like Sarah Palin also raised a son who is serving our country in Iraq. Do you know how condescending and sexist your remarks sound?

Anyways, given her outlandish support for the Bridge to Nowhere, I'm pretty sure, if the Democrats want to make it an issue, they can hang her with it, because she's been sitting in a state with some pretty corrupt and pork spending company.

She pushed for it like Stevens until Congress started asking questions and criticizing it, then said screw it.

Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now - while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.

Just a note Charles, she supported it in 2006, when the bridge was being laid out. After Congress threw a fit in 2007, she suddenly opposed it. It's not to say she didn't open her eyes, but it took national attention to do it, so she certainly is no champion of pork barrel slashing.

Charles - my mother is a lifelong Democrat although she did vote for Eisenhower and Barry Goldwater. She's also a social worker in Detroit doing the hard work of helping people find housing and food - kind of like Obama, but actually doing all the hard work and heavy lifting.

My comments were to be condescending. They are not sexist. I dont care what you or your brother, or your neighbor ended up doing in life. I dont care about your sister either. 17yr old pregnancies are wrong. A VP should be a role model, as a leader, as a woman, as a mother. Not teaching your kid and setting them up for a hard life is a failure as a parent. Certainly not VP material. So get up off your high horse, this is not about your or your family.
