So your trying to say that the dems are just as bad as the reps? That makes it all good then.

Gary. Obama's, McCain's, Palin's kids - none are up for election. They should be off limits, regardless of who is stepping over this line. But to say this is a 'Dems' thing is clearly untrue.

That's really uncalled for. Robin is making a point that what a 17 does or doesn't do isn't necessarily a reflection of the minor's parents. Anyone who's been a teenager or has one knows that to be true. Secondly, it's got nothing to do with Sarah Palin's ability to lead this country, whether you agree with her politics or not. Harping on this issue as Robin keeps pointing is only drawing more sympathy for Palin as a mother and woman trying to make it in a man's world.

Thank you Steve - your avatar is really freaking me out.

There has to be some hope, because at least what, five people in this thread, maybe more, are disgusted by this poor excuse for politics, from BOTH sides.

that is all I am trying to get across.. I am neither Pro McCain or Pro Obama..

I just want to see a good old fashioned political debate that doesn't turn into name calling and fist fighting.. is that too much to ask??

BTW - I remember those comments about the Coulter story very well - how you justified the unjustifiable comment she made about Edwards dead son.

6, don't you remember how this came out? Edward's went around with his act and crying about his son's death and telling everyone it was the first time he'd ever told this story. Even Kerry was creeped out by how a man could pimp his own son's death to gain other's confidence.

At least will Edwards never be in the White House, thank God.

McCain reportedly told a "joke" about Chelsea Clinton in 1998, saying: "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno." The late columnist Molly Ivins reported of Limbaugh:

On his TV show, early in the Clinton administration, Limbaugh put up a picture of Socks, the White House cat, and asked, 'Did you know there's a White House dog?' Then he put up a picture of Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 years old at the time and as far as I know had never done any harm to anyone.

When viewers objected, he claimed, in typical Limbaugh fashion, that the gag was an accident and that without his permission some technician had put up the picture of Chelsea -- which I found as disgusting as his original attempt at humor.

Did anybody say because Chelsea was ugly that determines Clinton's policies or judgement? She's what 28 now and reporters still weren't allowed to question her when was she openly aiding her mother's campaign. She may as well be 12 again with the way the media treats the fragile thing.

the point that was being made is that the Republicans cross the line too when it comes to families...

So your trying to say that the dems are just as bad as the reps? That makes it all good then.

Can you not simply accept that the political landscape of this country is one which facilitates this sort of personal attack as legitimate dialog. Why must one side be worse than another? Does it somehow vindicate your support for them?

You can't bring yourself to say - this sort of thing is disgusting and I'm tired of it?

I mean... can you really not do that?

That is exactly what I want. I was facilitating my point by holding up a mirror. But I am making a point that a new line has been crossed with Ms Palins children. The Edwards thing isn't an example of "our side starting it" because Edwards brought it up in an attempt to garner sympathy. Ms Palin only brought it up to refute the rumor that her daughter is really the mother of her baby. In other words, she was countering a vile attack on her family.

Yes, it's ok to talk about them, even if it's vile, if 'your side' profits from said talk/attacks. That's pretty much what we concluded the last time. A bad thing is only bad if you don't profit personally from it.

I happen to be one that agrees that this should never be an issue in this campaign. The problem I have is that it will happen again, and again, and again. Don't ever say this is just Dems, it is from all that enjoy smear campaigns, both sides. If some Reps find something out about a relative of Obama's I can guarantee it will make the news as well.

If what? The parents bring it up to gain sympathy? If they try to use them for political gain?

Any if, the children don't deserve it, whatever the parents may or may not merit.
