The funny thing is - Harry Potter is objectionable to some of these people because it features a main character that is a wizard and its a big selling, popular series that everyone has heard of...

However... does anyone think that HP is the only book featuring a wizard as a main character? Or is it only an issue when a lot of people want to read it?

Pandering to censorship freaks is a bit of a low IMO - but nothing particularly unique to Palin. After all Hillary Clinton started that whole bandwagon about the sex in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The irony of course was that the game developers purposefully included that content in GTA4 to thumb their noses at the naysayers.

Well that's one way of putting it... I'm inherently suspicious of such things - regardless of who or where they originate from. That piece I posted a while back about publishers wanting to slap age categories on their books was a bit of a stinker.

If parents want to be more informed about the media their children are exposed to - I'd suggest they actually read the book, listen to the CD, watch the movie, play the game etc - rather than take the word of an arbitrary ratings system.

I prefer to blame such activity on what we allow this society to saturate itself in... although I don't blame the games in their entirety, they do contribute when the society itself is desensitized to such behavior over and over again. Which brings us to banning books of certain tendencies... allowing such actions desensitizes us to allowing people to dictate what is and what isn't acceptable AND at the same time desensitizes us to having only one agenda as acceptable. Kind of like getting looked at weird every time you ask someone to think through a decision that doesn't benefit a particular political agenda.

Is this the first time you all heard about this? It was out there yesterday.

I'm starting to believe Sarah Palin is a seriously messed-up Mom With An Agenda. She cuts programs for unwed mothers yet she opposes abortion. She doesn't believe in sex education. She belonged to a political organization that exists pretty much to promote succession of Alaska from the US. And she's a book burner.

She's not like most of the SoccerMoms hanging out at my son's school when he was a kid and I was a stay-at-home mom. Any parent who buys into the spin that Sarah Palin is a "Mom Just Like Me" needs to think again.

She is obviously a wide eyed zealot. I have had the misfortune of working with men and women like her and didn't like it a whole lot.
