From today's New York Times:

Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.

The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article.

Is this the first time you all heard about this? It was out there yesterday.

I'm starting to believe Sarah Palin is a seriously messed-up Mom With An Agenda. She cuts programs for unwed mothers yet she opposes abortion. She doesn't believe in sex education. She belonged to a political organization that exists pretty much to promote succession of Alaska from the US. And she's a book burner.

She's not like most of the SoccerMoms hanging out at my son's school when he was a kid and I was a stay-at-home mom. Any parent who buys into the spin that Sarah Palin is a "Mom Just Like Me" needs to think again.

Not the first time I heard about it, but the first thread I've seen specifically about the book aspect. I love how people were berating the Obama campaign for being inexperienced and then McCain gets this woman who's biggest accomplishment is Governor of the bustling state of Alaska for less than 2 years.

Pandering to censorship freaks is a bit of a low IMO - but nothing particularly unique to Palin. After all Hillary Clinton started that whole bandwagon about the sex in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The irony of course was that the game developers purposefully included that content in GTA4 to thumb their noses at the naysayers.

Its a perennial issue. Next time there's a murder case involving a child perp you can guarantee someone will be slamming the media for it. Goes all the way back to the 50's (with comic books and rock and roll).
