Tax advice for anyone leaving UK on permanent basis

For anyone who is leaving the UK on a permanent basis, you are obliged to inform HM Revenue & Customs by completing form P85 'Leaving the UK' which can be found on the HMRC website. If you are leaving on a permanent basis (technically there could be a few hitches along the way- eg at the port of entry or with your adj of status etc which would mean you may have to return to the UK- which would be awful but HMRC just want to know what your INTENT is) then you should complete it- if you have been in receipt of any income whilst living in the UK and it has exceeded your personal allowance for the tax year (and you will be in receipt of no other UK income whilst living abroad) then you may be eligible for a tax refund- I have completed mine and am due over 600 GBP back!
