Help! I am lost.........

Question number 1: My fiancee's interview is in just over three weeks at the Embassy in Rio de Janeiro. She has not recieved her packet yet due to her remote location. I was reading over some of her forms to fill out and one asks for (I believe) her passport number. She does not have a Brazilian passport. Does she have to have this and if so will she need it before the interview? I am thinking she will be issued a US Passport and Visa if she is approved or am I incorrect?

Now first part of question number 2: I have not shown any income over the past three years as I have been working and building towards opening my own business. I am at the point now of opening the doors for business but I want to wait until my fiancee returns with me here. I own the commercial property it sits on as well as my house on the same land. I am opening an automotive machine shop and I have lots of money tied up in my machines alone. Here's my question.....I have a good friend who is willing to co-sponsor my fiancee and I. Should I rely only on his co-sponsorship to show sufficent support OR should I have all my assets appraised as well as my property? If I do have my house, business and machinery appraised, do I need it done by a licensed appraiser or can a realtor do an EBO ( Estate Broker's Opinion)? Should I do all and also bring a written statement by me explaining my financial situation or should I just go with the co-sponsor and leave well enough alone?

Last one for now: I also read today I will need to pay for her and her son's Visa fees before the interview. Can this be done a day before at the Embassy in Rio? Or can I do this first thing the day of the interview? Do they only accpet cash or will an American credit card be accepted?

1) US Passports are for US Citizens ONLY...

2) She will receive a US Visa that is affixed to her Brazillian passport

3) Payment is typically made only in currency... Some consulates it is the day of the interview at the consulate, others it is before at an authorized bank. You NEED to review the procedures as documented on the RDJ website...

But she does not have a Brazilian passport. That is what I meant to ask, if she needed a Brazilian passport first. If so this would be the first we have been told about it.

She MUST have a Brazilian passport. If necessary, postpone the interview until she gets one. This information should have been in her first mailing from the consulate.

I imagine they presume that everyone understands what is requred to facilitate international travel... You needed a passport to travel to Brazil.... the same would be true for her....

fees are paid in advance at Citibank...

The total fee for a fiancé(e)/K3visa is US$ 131.00 (EACH), this payment must be done only in reais; no

checks are accepted, payable at Citibank. Each applicant must be prepared to pay this fee.

This fee cannot be paid at the Consulate under any circumstances. Each dependent must pay

the fee, regardless of age. There is no specific form for the fee. Just ask for the “American

visa fee†at a Citibank agency.

Well we just recieved notice last week of her NOA and her interview is on the 24th of this month.

better hop to it.... You had plenty of time during the wait to get the petition approved to cover all the details but now that is gone. Brazil may have a expedite option for passports... be prepared to open your pocketbook...

Didn't she get a packet from the consulate with paperwork to fill out and a form to send in when she was ready for an interview appointment? They just sent her an appointment date with no other information?

I recieved a letter here on the 16th of August of her NOA and that within a week the Consulate in Rio would have her information and that they would mail her the packet after that. She has not recieved the packet yet. My lawyer never told me of having to have a Brazilian passport for her either. Sorry for being stupid but I thought the Visa/Passport supplied to her after the interview would be sufficient to get her home with me. I guess that's what I get for thinking......

Time to rethink about the quality of the services recieved for the compensation paid to your lawyer...
