The chief said that he'd yet to review the specifics of Monday's incident. But he said that police seek to give ample warning before breaking up what they deem as unlawful assembly, and that if journalists don't clear the scene, he added, it is difficult for officers to look at protesters and reporters and "to make those kinds of fine distinctions."

This is a problem. The police were using pincer techniques, coming in from all sides and surrounding the protesters/rioters/journalists all mixed together. They weren't letting people clear the scene, so how on earth were the journalists/non rioters suppose to get out?

Shoot first, ask questions later? Sounds about right from your observations.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

What right do these protesters have to try silence other people's opinions... This is what it's all about really. Basically, if a lib doesn't agree with someone then they feel they have the right to disrupt and prevent the other person from voicing their opinion. This scenario is played over and over again throughout the US.

Freedom of political speech is what the 1st amendment actually protected. Certainly not all of the other #######, such as do as one pleases, that the LSD damaged lib brain is claiming to be protected by the 1st amendment..

Edited by Aficionado

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

As opposed to just getting locked away for being a liberal, right?

If what you describe would be a realistic characterization, we'd be living in a politically liberal nation- with not 'conservative' ideals to repent as is the case now. Spare us your gross generalizations.

Heh, just sounded like some rant which had nothing to do with the topic anyways.

Oh, I don't think you've been properly introduced to who we affectionately call, Wild Tangent (Aficionado). He didn't get that name for nothin.

You are full of it.

I have seen it played out a number of times on college campuses. Where conservative voices are silenced through harassment and intimidation. Is this what you guys teach in your colleges?

PS If you look at the news footage the clowns protesting are certainly not doing so in a peaceful or respectful manner. They are there to cause trouble. They are there to intimidate others that do not believe in their warped drug induced views.

So in other words you didn't read the article and so you have manufactured a fantasy about violent liberals that plays to your deluded preconceived biases.

We have already heard from a person who was actually there and who has said that the violence was perpetrated by a handful of extremists and not by the majority of the protesters who staged a peaceful demonstration.

"Peaceful" demonstration about what?

Its the RNC - the convention for the incumbent political party that's been in office since 2000. You can probably guess.

Well BY for starters you may want to identify the sources and perpetrators beyond simpleton liberal/conservative tactics. You may be in for a surprise if you could muster the logic to look at reality and not for what you want it to fit into your narrow, generalized view of the world.

As for the footage you refer to perhaps it would also benefit you to ask those that were there in person. Since you are such a fan of 'first hand accounts and personal experiences' from those that you meet.

And as for the Colleges... well once again, you need to act a little bit more specifically since pretty much most US Colleges produce the voters that have shaped US politics for the last 227 years. But I'll give you a hint- the ones I've been involved in have produced such illuminates like John Ashcroft, Paul Wolfowitz, etc.

Anti-war protestors win $2 million settlement from the city

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/0...on_settlem.html

Sometimes it's a good idea to protest!

Not bad at all!

[$2M - 30%]/52 protesters : ~$27K per protester!

Time to do the protest circuit folks! No matter what you protest!!

You just have to count on there being enough stupid cops to violate your civil rights... even though the city probably won't admit to guilt in settling...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

(update)

News gathering is a constitutionally protected activity in the United States. But although Kouddous, Salazar and Rourke were wearing credentials that identified them as members of the press, they were held on riot charges. Salazar suffered a bloody nose after being dragged, face-down on the ground, according a statement released by "Democracy Now!"

When Goodman arrived at the scene 20 minutes later, she asked the riot police if she could see her producers, who were being held in police vehicles. “I just said, 'I want to talk to a commander,' ” said Goodman, who had her own press badge slung around her neck. “They didn’t skip a beat; they just started arresting me.”

The scene was captured on video -- a clip that was one the most-viewed videos on YouTube.com on Tuesday. In it, Goodman is seen pleading with the police while her arms are twisted behind her back and into plastic handcuffs.

All four journalists were released hours after being arrested. Goodman was officially charged with obstruction of a legal process and interference with a peace officer.

"Democracy Now!" plans to continue its coverage of the protests despite the police presence, which Goodman described as "overly aggressive."

"I was very angry. This was a violation of my rights," Goodman said. "But

it’s so much bigger than us. When the press is shut down, it's closing the eyes and ears of a critical watchdog in a democratic society."
