Has anyone applied for a first time British passport with the Embassy in Washington recently? I'm trying to figure out if I would have to physically go there for a passport interview, as the new rules would indicate.

If you have never held a UK passport then how did you enter the USA? They do not do passport interviews, you have to send the required evidence to prove that you are entitled to a UK passport, if that is accepted then they will issue a passport to you.

Sorry, I'll give a bit more info. I'm a dual US/British Citizen by birth in Bermuda to a US mother, Bermudian father. I entered the US as a child with my US birth certificate. I didn't even know that I was a dual citizen until a couple of years ago, when I began researching British nationality law in depth. I am now looking into getting a passport, and according to http://www.britainusa.com/sections/article...2=0&a=46742 they require interviews for all first timers overseas, as of April 2008. I wanted to see if anyone hear was in the same situation, looking to get a first time adult passport since April 2008 and if they had to go in for an interview per this new policy.

Ah so you will need an interview to establish your claim to UK citizenship, that is not just a case of applying for a passport. so yes you will need to go and be interviewed and if they accept your claim to UK citizenship they will then allow you to apply for a UK passport.

I doubt you will find anyone on here how has had to do this as most people on here that are UK citizens were born in the UK and already hold UK passports.
