Hi I have several old original CDs and DVDs which I intend to bring with me in the US but I'm afraid that the customs might think that these are pirated. I don't have copies of the receipts since I bought these long time ago.

I don't see why they would do that if it's original. I had bought some CD's(15) when I was visisting back in May, and I brought those back with me and they didn't even bother asking about it, they did however asked about a shell lamp I had...hehehe.. but the customs agent in Hawaii let me go ahead with just a warning and let me keep it.. toinks!!

How many are you bringing back? Are you talking a couple or like a suitcase full.. As far as reciepts go, shouldn't matter if you have them or not...

Ingats lage!

hi pinoy_pinay,

My husband brought like a 2.5 inch thick album of Burn DVDs here in the phil. When he reached customs in NAIA, he was just asked to put it in the declaration, but the customs didn't confiscate in.

About bringing DVDs goin out of the Philippines, he didn't encountered any problems about that DVD album.

If the customs in the airport gone stricter,(which I dont think they did), then I suggest, just bring original ones.

pls check this post of mine regarding a friendly advisory about bringing stuffs goin in and out of the country.

Just a friendly reminder to all balikbayans and travelers to USA

hope that helps! :)

Well, the real question for you is, are those burned CDs more important than your visa? my_panacea = Greg mention her hubby not having any trouble with his album full of burned DVDs, but being a minority, you might draw more attention than he would.

If you have a laptop, just copy them to the HDD and burn them later to a CD when you make it home with your hubby. Another thing you can do is, if you have a gmail/yahoo email account, you can just email the songs to yourself and dl them later, I think you can attach up to 10MB per email(about 3-4 songs in .mp3 or .wma format). There's ways of getting the songs later, but right now, I would just not bother with the burn CDs, you never know, you can be the unlucky one they decide to check.

Ingats ka!

Walang anuman... but to also answer your question how customs can tell if it's pirate or original.. Original CD/DVD are silver on the bottom and usually have a barcode embeded/printed on the underside(close to the hole n the center), as blank CD/DVDs that you purchase to burn, have a blue-ish color bottom cus of the dye they used for recordable media (the bottom color may change with different manufactures).
