I read "somewhere" you shouldn't hilight things on evidence of bonafide marriage. Can't see why as you would think it would make it easier reviewing such. Maybe copying?

I used a highlighter on every copy I made and sent to USCIS. I highlighted any relevant information that I wanted them to notice, it was much easier to see the info when highlighted IMO. We had no problems with highlighting as we were approved eventually..

I had a lengthy tax code citation in response to one of my RFE's that I highlighted on the advice of a family friend/immigration lawyer. I have no idea if it irritated 'the man' or not but we did get the greencard about a month later.

Hi Haole,

I don't think it should be a problem to use a highlighter to highlight information, especially if it is photocopies that you are highlighting. It makes their job easier, when they see highlighted specific and relevant information, which means less hassle in reading and approving cases. For my I-751 evidence, I highlighted the joint information and my name and a# (which I put on the corner of each page) on the photocopies that I sent.

The only exception to that rule is when the paperwork is originals. By highlighting that, it might show that one was tampering with the original information/documents. For example, in the paperwork of original notarized affidavits. So in that case, what I did was that I put a bright post-it note/ removable scrap piece of paper with written and highlighted information on it, so it identifies the information and keeps it original too.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your immigration journey.

I agree, only highlight copies, not original documents. We are sending them numerous copies of documents showing joint ownership, joint responsibility and other things to prove a marital relationship. Why not make it easier for them to review the pertinent parts that reflect the relationship. If you send copies of a retirement arrangement which shows your spouse as the primary beneficiary, then why make them read everything if they only need to see one line.
