Most people seem to select the USC petitioner as the agent. This is usually to avoid extended mailing times and avoid any applicable language barriers. The tricky thing here is that the beneficiary needs to have the completed DS-230 and all supporting documents in the petitioner's hand in as soon as possible to avoid any delays. In my case I chose to be my own agent anyway. Since we're following Loto's Guide and James' Shortcuts to speed everything up, the mailing time doesn't matter anyway. :)

Anyone can be appointed as choice of agent, most people just appoint the USC petitioner.

I would highly encourage you to choose the USC petitioner as the choice of agent. The most important reason:

- Avoid international mailing delays.

This would be importnat in case you need NVC cover letter or any other document to obtain local Police Clearance Certificates etc. Your petitioner can promptly fax you any correspondence from the NVC. It takes about a week to get mails from NVC in the States as opposed to 3-4 week s overseas.

In case you have an RFE on DS-230, this would facilitate an efficient response.

Happy journey.
