Palin has a Canadian accent?
What exactly is wrong with a "Canadian" accent?

I really want to know what a Canadian accent is

Kind of a weakend british accent. I have lots of canadian relatives, and they definitely sound canadian! I have noticed that people in Minnesota and Wisconsin sound like that too, and wonder why? People in Bellingham WA don;t sound like canadians and they are just as close!

Actually, the town that Mrs. Palin comes from in Alaska was originally inhabitated in the 1920's with a group of colonists from Wisconsin and Minnesota with the intent of starting an agricultural center for Alaska. Part of the New Deal, I believe. Many of them still have direct descendents living in the area today...lots of Swedish names and a lot of the midwest accents...think Fargo (the movie). Also lots of attractive blonde ladies, but I digress...

Not sure if Palin belongs to that original group of folks, but the midwest accent isn't completely foreign up here...

Not trying to nitpick, but this was one of just a handful of dates that managed to stick in my head from high school American history...the New Deal was post-Depression...around 1935, I think. I'm not trying to sound smart...just saw an opportunity to flaunt what very little I still remember from high school. :P

Nope. The New Deal was during the Depression. Not showing off but my Dad grew up during the Great Depression so I heard about it before I went to high school.

"The New Deal was the title that United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave to a sequence of programs and promises he initiated between 1933 and 1938 with the goal of giving relief to the poor, reform of the financial system, and recovery of the economy during the Great Depression."

You guys are probably right. I just threw that out there quick, without checking my dates. But hopefully you got the point, which is that there are lots of midwestern US roots where the Guv comes from... Here, I found this on some local (to Alaska) info website

<SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'">"The Matanuska Colony was one of more than 100 New Deal projects created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in an attempt to end nationwide unemployment and help Americans rebuild their lives.
