I can comprehend nuances. They seem wasteful, though, to me. Why imply when you can get right to the point? Opinions and philosophical discussion are quite enlightening when played with those intellectually competent enough to not require 'nuances'.

You're right lady, it is wasteful.

You see, I'm not the guy you're looking for to engage in an intellectual discourse on "cat took a dump on the mat" without nuances. Er, simple, clear and concise.

No Ma'am, that I am clearly not competent to do.

Perhaps, you might want to try Mav...:lol::lol:

Perhaps you'd like to publicly state who you support for the Presidency as well. There is nothing more secret than your own secret VJ account, so there's no need to fear your secret ballot will be safe with us.

Why don't you reveal your identity and personal work details first and then I'll consider.

But then again, I have to ask what would be your purpose in wanting me to reveal my id?

Also, the last time I checked, we have a secret ballot system in these USof A.

Is it not?

No need to beat around the bush. I am not asking for your personal info, so don't bend the argument to where you can't go.

Just say it brother metta. No need for whining against Obama so much... just say how much of a McCain fan you really are.

I can respect someone choosing to keep private their voting preferences - but making out that's its some big thing by dragging in the Secret Ballot is a little strange. Second person to do this as well.

The reason we have a secret ballot (basically a curtain around the ballot box) is basically so that you won't be coerced or bribed to vote a particular way or to change your vote. Its a bit of a stretch to apply that to what are essentially anonymous message boards.

Exactly.

Furthermore, your ballot is not secret when you dedicate so much angst in the direction of one of the two choices most likely to be checked in the voting booth. All the 'suspense' just feeds a high index of suspicion that there is a lot of pettiness in some folks. Sad.

...it's also worth pointing out that Alaska is a very young state. Not even 50 years old! The federal money spent here pales in comparison to money the dumped into other states over the last couple of hundred years. The federal government has an obligation to develop its new acquisitions just as it has always done. And before you try the population argument, "the west" was once as sparsely populated as Alaska currently is, but that didn't stop it from spending billions upon billions of dollars on it...

I have to say, you make a good point!

I don't. If you're ashamed of how you vote, then you shouldn't be voting.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Privacy in voting isn't about the 'shame'. What a silly idea.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It certainly can't exist if you spend your time claiming privacy while being quite public in attacking a candidate repetitively.

eh. I misread your statement. At first blush, thought you were taunting me of being afraid to disclose my ID and voting preferences.

I am neither a fan of mcCain nor Obama.

Respect them both for different reasons. McCain for his experience, gallantry, and wisdom on many issues including his initiatives on Cambodia and Vietnam. A victim of torture striving to open up relations with a country which subjected him to that torture. It wasn't a go along with the flow initiative either. Took a lot of sustained effort against formidable opposition to effect normalization relations with those countries. Shows magnanimity, statemanship and wisdom. Also admire his old fashioned sense of service, duty and sacrifice for the country. Yes, I disagree on ideology on many fronts but accept his leadership as proven and sterling.

Obama. As for him, I admire his determination, eloquence and his scrappy political skills. But I don't think he is there yet to be president. No record, no executive experience just sheer ambition and proven skills in political street fighting. I am convinced he is not there yet.

Given the many issues facing us: global politics, war, looming super power rivalaries, ongoing wars, leconomy, environment and social programs in crisis, he is a very risky bet. As risky as Sarah Palin with all her dazzling qualities, were she to be nominated to the top of the Rep ticket.

So at this point in time, I'd vote for an EXPERIENCED President with an understudy VP than for an INEXPERIENCED President with a nanny VP (Bush Cheney redux).

So there's your answer there Mav. Could expound on it but this should suffice.

No mystery there , huh?

Now we understand each other. Thanks for your take. I don't see Obama as the risk you assess him to be... but hey to each his own. After all, enough voters voted for Bush and look at the disaster that was.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Like I said... look where all that 'experience' got us. Relevancy and substance... quite a problem for some to accept as real.

I dunno - the way I look at it if someone doesn't want to talk about their vote choice, that's perfectly fine and noone should force the issue. In fact, I'm not particularly interested in who's voting for who - its often irrelevant to these discussions.

But trying to make out that there is some big, principled reason behind it (via the Secret Ballot) does seem a little silly. The Secret Ballot exists simply to make the elections free from external influence (most often bribery or coercion). Unless the thinking is that there is a real likelihood of being influenced by forum posters... but then IF that is rationale then i) why is that necessarily a problem?; and ii) why post at all if you're concerned about that?

As I said - pretty silly.
