Wrong info on GC??

Oops... I posted this in the wrong forum. :)

Ok... I'm not sure what to do about this one!

My husband came into the country over 2 years ago on a K1 visa and we were married. He received his GC and everything has been going fine. We submitted AOS paperwork in June and received application acceptance in July. On July 22nd Paul did his biometrics again.

Last Thursday he flew his children back to their mother in England and was flying back home today when he was told something very odd. When he arrived in Newark with his expired GC and I797C notice stating it is OK for him to travel and work he was pulled up by an officer. First the officer said "you know your gc is expired and we don't have to let you in" so my husband told him the I797C notice is in his passport which states he is ok to travel. The guy then said he needed to verify that it was valid. We've never had that happen before... so they took him to a different area where another officer pulled up his information and asked him if he was coming back into the country for business.

Turns out the officer said his I797C and all paperwork in the system states his status is from K1 visa / getting married to US Cit. but his GC is codded as if he came into the country for business reasons.

We travel all the time and nobody has ever mentioned it once even when his K1 visa was in his old passport. Do they actually code GC's differently? Do I need to call the service center and point out that his old expired GC has incorrect info so that when they issue his permanent GC it is correct?

I've not heard of this before... is it really a big deal or were they just messing around with him as usual?

What is the code on your spouse's green card?

It should be CR-1, i believe. Anything else, you are going to need an infopass to get things straighten out.

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

Ok... he made it home and I'm looking at his GC... I'm having a hard time reading it but it looks like CF-1 or CJ or CI

As far as I know, the correct category is CF1 if your husband entered on the fiance visa. That's what it says on my husband's card and in the example in the VJ photo gallery. The code would be different if he arrived on an immigrant visa or adjusted from a non-fiance visa.

It's possible there's some other problem in the computer so you might want to set up an Infopass appointment at your local office to clarify. But I'm pretty sure that CF1 is the correct code on the green card.

CF1 is the correct code on a 2 year conditional card for K1 adjustments. IF1 is the corrrect code for a 10 year card obtained via adjustment from K1.

We had my wife's category corrected by USCIS because they had the wrong code in the computer and we were worried about the error causing problems later on.

I'd suggest an InfoPass to see what they show in their systems.
