Apparently the Embassy in Tokyo has switched over to a new system to make the appointments for turning in the I130 forms.

The new system, is actually just an old NIV appointment form, which in itself is really confusing because the instructions on the form itself don't match the instructions on the I130 page that links to it.

http://japan.usembassy.gov/e/visa/tvisa-iv-i130appo.html

Once you do get into the "new" appointment site, all the appointments for this month are booked, but any month from next on shows no appointment dates whatsoever. It's just blank. I wonder if it just hasn't been updated yet?

How can people in Japan make their I130 Appointments for DCF? As far as I can see with my research there's no other options. Can anyone help me?

Thanks so much for the notification, you're a life saver!

I made an appointment for my self and the confirmation page said:

"You Must Bring This Page To Your Appointment To Be Admitted.

This document confirms your appointment as a U.S. citizen to file an I-130 immigrant visa petition for your spouse, child, stepchild or parent. Each non-U.S. citizen relative/I-130 beneficiary must have his or her own appointment."

but then later it said:

"We prefer that the beneficiary of the I-130 petition (meaning your non-U.S. citizen relative) accompany you to the Embassy for the appointment. "

So I was a bit confused about whether or not I needed to make a appointment for my wife too. I went ahead and clicked make another appointment, and entered in my wife's info. The confirmation page she got was exactly the same, except for the confirmation number of course.

What confuses me about this is it still says

"This document confirms your appointment as a U.S. citizen to file an I-130 immigrant visa petition for your spouse, child, stepchild or parent."

But she's not a US citizen, she's a Japanese citizen.

I thought maybe they determined your citizenship by the passport number you entered in so I expected to see a different message for her appointment.

So I have a question,

Did I even need to make her a separate appointment? And if so did I make it in the right place?

Thanks again!

Well I went ahead and called the payed visa service center to be sure.

I would have felt bad for taking up two appointment slots when I only need the one. Which turned out to be the case. He said I only need the appointment for the American citizen and the beneficiary is allowed in under the same appt. So I'm going to cancel the appointment I made for my wife now.

While I had him on the phone I also had him confirm one more thing that I thought I'd share here just in case anyone needs it.

A Japanese citizen can turn in their koseki in place of their birth certificate in the I-130 package.

I'm really thankful for the help I'm getting on these forums. I hope once we're done with all this I can come help some people in return!

Hi Jake,

I don't think you need to make a separate appointment for her.

At least my husband (USC) and I needed only a single appointment when we went to the embassy for our I-130 petition last month.
